I can confirm that the OEM mopar filter that came on my Gen 5 (and the one replaced by first dealership oil change) is significantly smaller than the RP 10-48 I just put on. They may have compatible threads, but that RP filter is significantly larger. Definitely not "the same size". It may be anecdotal, but after seeing the difference in the numbers, that OEM filter was a bottleneck for oil PSI and temps in my truck.

What is the OEM filter number.

^^^Wow the gen 5 trucks have an even smaller oil filter than the RP 10-48.

Is there even less room around the filter than the gen 4's?

Why do they keep going smaller? If the RP 10-48 fits there must be room.
I'm assuming it's all about cost. A smaller filter is cheaper to produce and holds less oil. Double win for them, not necessarily for our trucks....

If they did change the filter size I’m surprised they did not just make it the same across the board and make them all take that cartridge filter that the 3.6 uses.

Obviously I’m not saying they should I’m just saying I’m surprised they didn’t if they did make a change.

Both the factory and dealer gave me the Mopar 04892339AA filter. I don't know if the OEM filters are getting smaller because I came from a 360 magnum before this truck, but that royal purple filter is definitely taller and more substantial in my palm. I am kicking myself for not taking a side-by-side picture now. I'm guessing the Amsoil filter is going to be the same way.

I would not be suprised if the factory installed 339 was smaller than the 339 (2018) that my dealer put on it. That factory 339 was incredibly small.

Idk, but I learned that spending an extra $3-$4 on a micro-glass oil filter is worth the money. I'll eat that $6-$8 annual cost differential.

I've had the best luck with either Amsoil or M1 filters. Haven't tried the RP filters so can't comment on them. So far mine is running great on 5/20 SS, just ordered more this morning for the wife's van and it will be here tomorrow. Amsoil has also came out with a synthetic media filter for the 3.6 so it's on its way also.

Amsoil and RP filters are identical. Both now made by I believe, Champion Labs. I looked up the cut a way comparison and lab performance tests. They are both clearly Tier 1 quality filters. I buy the RP because they are easier to get.

Next, they'll ban filters to eliminate disposal. Lifetime oil and sealed crankcase anyone?

Nah, they aren't messing with oil filters. California just pushed legislation this year to ban the sale of gasoline engines altogether by 2040 (AB 1735 aka "Clean Cars 2040 Act").

Crate engines are the future real man trucks. Im tellin ya. The small percentage of guys like us that care about this stuff are going to go that extreme for daily drivers.

I plan on it after this truck.

^^^Yep and starting in 2020 a percentage of vehicles sold must be electric. Not sure how they intend to manage that. Worlds worst bureaucrats.

Yep, Executive Order pushing for CA's total GHG emission to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 - and 1.5 million ZEV on the road by 2035.

I'm pretty sure that's one of the reasons that motivated GM and Volvo to pursue 100% EV lineups right? CA is the largest car market in the U.S.

I'm in the process of restoring a 1955 chevy - looks like it might become my daily driver instead of a hobby! haha

Already am,

My local gas station carries their own brand of 0W 16.

I decided to run oil that thin because Chrysler designed the 6.4 with extremely tight tolerances. 40W oil won’t fit in between any of the metal parts anymore. Also I want much lower oil pressure because that obviously equals a lot more flow which is way better for my valve train when I have really long idle times.

To help even further I reprogrammed my PCM to run at a lower idle rpm’s to save more gas. I also lowered my shift point RPMs to help the engine lug a little bit more resulting in better fuel mileage.

Have an appointment next week to take my 488 gears out and and install 321s

People will go to Nevada to buy their vehicles, that was quiet popular when I was out there in the early 70's.
