My wife's 2017 BMW has the start/stop feature and we both hate it. Fortunately, the system defaults to off when you start the car. The early systems defaulted to on but BMW had so many issues and complaints they changed it. If the system defaults to off in the new Rams then I would not care one way or the other. If it defaults to on or cannot be easily user disabled, I would move to an HD truck the next time around.
I doubt it will. My wife's 2017 Jeep GC start/stop defaults to on and you have to turn it off EVERY time you start it. I can't stand it the start stop. The wife has gotten used to but I always turn it off when I drive it. The amount of fuel it actually saves doesn't outweigh the additional wear and tear on the starter/flexplate

So get in your truck and push

start stop button
traction control button
tow haul button
fasten the seat belt

adjust the radio ,find the knob to shift and finally drive off and then select 8th gear on the shifter to turn off MDS.

I'm sure there's a documented amount of fuel saved with the start/stop system, but exactly how much for a given duration of driving is a data point we'll never pry from FCA. Just like their artificially running the 8-speeds about 20 degrees hotter than a lot of auto trans guru's feel comfortable about to eke a few hundredths of a mpg more, or the hemi shutters. Hell, on one of the 2019 Ram 1500 description sites, RAM actually has engine coolant plumbed thru the differential cover to warm that assembly allegedly in the quest for the mileage grail. If I didn't see that, I wouldn't believe it.

I think how much fuel it saves depends on the situation. If you're in a lot of stop and go traffic it might actually save an appreciable amount of fuel. But if you're stopping at a few stop lights here and there I really can't see it saving much fuel at all.

Also it doesn't stop the motor if the AC is on or if the heat cranked if it's cold out. So there again it depends on the situation.

The one good thing I did see regarding the 2019 Ram 1500, is the max tow package comes with a beefed up Dana 60 real axle. Beefed in that the ring gear is a full 10" where normal Dana 60's have a 9.75" ring gear. The axle shafts are also thicker and use 35 splines. Thats nice beef.

Ford has the start/stop on their trucks already (I think most of the 2.7L come with it) and people have a work around to disable it. I believe one of them is a plug that fits into the towing harness that tricks the truck into thinking a trailer is attached thus turning it off without hitting any buttons. There are a lot of motivated smart people out there.

No, only some of them are. The also have non water soluble ones for lubricants. PAG is big in gear fluids already, and if you believe the link can be widespread soon.

Wait a second.

Sorry to bring up the new truck again but take a look at this video at 2:49..... RAM has somewhat “squared off” ever so slightly the wheel wells.

That sucks

Burla,
From your link

“Polyglycol oils may have a negative impact on sealing materials and may dissolve some paints. At operating temperatures above 212°F (100°C), only seals made of fluorinated rubber or PTFE are resistant. Before using PAG oils in production applications, it is advisable to test compatibility with paints, seals and sight glass materials.”

This seal compatibility could be a slight problem.
