I currently have a 22" Magnaflow muffler (Part # 12588) and I absolutely LOVE the sound but even after taking the resonators off, it doesn't quite seem to be loud enough for me. This is by far the quietest exhaust system I have ever put on. Reason being is I drive ALL highway to work everyday and I DO NOT want any kind of drone in the cab. This exhaust is perfect for that. Only time I actually hear the exhaust in a quiet truck is if I am cruising 85mph or more. I have been looking at the exhaust thread and I think I have made up my mind on a 18" magnaflow.

Questions:
1. What would be the part number to the magnaflow 18" or are they all the same when it comes to 3" in and 2x 2.5" out?
2. Do you guys that have this system with/with out resonators get any drone at 65-75mph?

I am not looking for anything glass shattering noise, but just want a touch louder than what I have currently.

5x8 oval, 18" long, 3"/2-2.25" satin - P/N 12278

5x8 oval, 18" long, 3"/2-2.25" polished - P/N 14278

It will not drone with resonators. It will drone without them a bit in OD at around 1800 - 2000 RPM. I had the satin unit on my 5.7L MegaCan.

I'm bebating a swap as well but my 22" Maggy drones like a **** from 1500 to 1700ish rpm. Truck is actually quieter at 75-85 mph than at 55-65 mph.

EDIT: still have the resonators in place, just a muffler swap with X pipe

FWIW, I have an 18" Magnaflow with stock resonators and 5" edelbrock tips and is perfect to my ears. Just enough grunt when accelerating, but quiet and without drone between 0-75 mph. i don't know if there's drone above that.

Yeah, we all hear differently and that's the difficult part of answering these questions.

Also, RPM at certain hwy speeds has an impact as well and gearing dictates what that RPM is.

But I was OK with the sound as it was great at idle, at speed and at higher RPM's when getting on the throttle. I never once considered putting the resonators back on.

On my 2014 6.4L truck my options were limited due to the rear auto level air suspension pump and manifold and the big ass fuel tank on the driver's side.

So I went with a SI/SO Magnaflow and a reso delete. It also has some drone in full auto (6th gear) at around 1500 - 1600 or so RPM but sounds really good otherwise.

I guess to be fair I should point out the truck sounds absolutely amazing everywhere else in the RPM range.

Start up and idle, WOT, and cruising on the HWY is pure pleasure to my ears.

Heck, I was just at the dealership, truck was still in the "entrance lane area" and I was in the waiting room. So I'm sitting there and I hear them start up a vehicle and it sounds really nice so I do the "quick turn and look" and what do i see, them moving my truck. Funny, I usually don't get to hear her fire up from any distance away since NO ONE else ever drives my truck. She sounded awesome IMHO :favorites13:

My old small block drones from 16-1800, otherwise it's fine with a 14 inch maggy

Is the drone just noticeable or can you hear it above a normal level of music playing in the truck? Thanks for the correct part number :)

That's wierd, im the exact opposite and its only noticeable if I have the radio off. Do you have the normal dual exhaust or is your dumped?

Hi, just installed a Pro 9000 Spintech best choice in my opinion. Cruises quiet and roars under WOT and left the resonaters on would be too loud without. Nothing against the competition but they don't hold a candle to this muffler. Also I shut off the MDS didn't like the sound when it switches to 4 cylinders

I have an 18 inch jones muffler (knockoff magnaflow) and it's a little quiter than I'd like but sounds good almost all the time. My first exhaust on this truck sounded awesome but was a little loud when towing the camper. (6 inch dynomax bullet so damn near a straight pipe). The 18 inch muffler still has some funny tones when mds kicks in but I would consider it no to minimal drone. Everyone's opinion varies on this.

On the 6.4L it's barely noticeable.

On the old MegaCan it was a bit louder.

But again, I don't have your ears so that's all really subjective.

All I can say is in both cases I turned up the radio and it wasn't a problem.

You're welcome on the part number info. Glad to help.

I hope there is a decent difference between the 22" and 18" I got quoted $160 installed at my local exhaust shop I have been going to for years. They always hook me up a little bit.

The 14 inch magnaflow will fix your problem, very aggressive with a nice tone. The smaller the muffler, the louder it will be.

Weird that it doesn't sound loud enough, it should have become louder after the res delete
