Hey guys... So, I bought one of them Bluetooth ODB II code readers and just for fun I ran diagnostic scan on my 2014 CCRB Sport. To my surprise it came back with code: U0140.

This code is "lost contact with body control module” . I can't find much about that code I saw one old post on another forum, but the answer wasn't clear. Is it an issue? I have full warranty, should I contact the dealer?

Yes get that checked out body control module being faulty can cause all kinds of chaos.Could just need a reflash but keep in mind those modules are expensive.

there will be no trouble lights due to the fact the body control module has no effect on emissions.

body control module usually controls interior functions---radio, HVAC, TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system), security, etc. Erase code and check after a couple of days, if it returns then yes take to dealer. sometimes the loss of communication can come from a disconnected battery soon after built in factory or at dealer during prep.

if you take to dealer, they will clear code and check to see if it returns immediately, if not they will tell you "no problem found at this time".

I know because I used to work for a dodge dealership for 8 years.

Sorry to revive an old thread but i just had this code and another one pop up last night.

A little back story of what happened to me today.

So last night on my '13 RAM 1500 my check engine light came on while driving up HWY85, only thing it did was ding with the check engine light and disabled my "ECO" mode (That i know of). So i got up this morning was going to take it to the dealership since i have the warranty and just bought it a month ago. FWB was the closest open today. So i drove there.

When i got there I talked to the service rep he told me that they was full for the morning and that if i wanted it checked out to go to an Autozone... like seriously your telling me to goto an Autozone. then proceeds to say that even if you do go there some codes are "copyrighted" and they won't even be able to see them. So either way you'll have to come back here.

If i really wanted to goto an auto zone i wouldn't of cam all the way from crestview to have my truck checked out at a dealership (Local Ram Service Department was closed today).

I was just so dumbfounded that a dealership telling me to goto a part store but they can't do much so you'll have to come back anyways...

Electrical connection? Unplug use some dielectric grease maybe?

I'd try that first.

Could grab a DVM and measure the pins. Not a great guarantee but maybe find a short??

Check wiring and ground of that portion of harness. Tr you anything before Spending 100/hr for someone else to check the same.

If under warranty forget all the above.

I had them check the codes today. All that they told me is that there was a sensor bad in the air intake. And that they would have to replace the whole thing. $700+ with parts and labor. They are going to check if it's under warranty.

Also idk if the U0140 is an old code or not there never mentioned that one.

Hi hbfieldii,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

I went back later that afternoon. And the post above yours is what they told me. And then to either call the warrant myself or go back and they will call the company to see if it's covered.

I plugged in mine today and I have the same code. Were you experiencing any issues?

Turtleboy: a 2014 should be under warranty (but your 3 year 36K bumper to bumper may be done. At which point its a matter of whether FCA will treat this as part of the drivetrain or not).

Code U0140: pertains to the body control module (BCM) or the wiring to the BCM from the engine control module. The code may mean that the BCM is bad, that the BCM is not receiving or sending a signal, the BCM harness has an open or short, or that the BCM is not communicating with the ECM via the controller area network communication line.
The BCM is an electronic module that is part of the vehicle's entire electrical system and it controls a bunch of functions including but not limited to the tire pressure monitor, remote keyless entry, door locks, the anti-theft alarm, heated mirrors, washers and wipers and the horn along with a grunch of other stuff.

Just driving down the road. Traction light comes on and cruise control won't work. No other issues.

Pull over and shut the engine off for a moment. Still there. It finally goes away after 3 minutes of driving. CC works again. I get home and this code is in my history but not in the stored.

Well now I have 3 things to fix. Recall, random SrS light and this. It's under warranty but I hate arguing with the service reps.

Late post entry I know ,. I just had my check engine light come on. Came up with two codes

U0140 and p0071 witch is ambient air temp sensor. I'm bringing my truck to get it looking at Wednesday so we will see how they get all the fixed. Should be all covered under my extended warranty. Also getting my recall done as well. 8c7a34f354534944e1db5174397c61bd.jpg820da9b3967454e32c2d78bac549371a.jpg

Need to revive this thread gents. I have this same code in my truck after getting my long tubes installed. Truth be told. It may have been there previously. I'm not sure. I have this one and the P0420 and P0430 codes. I'm assuming both P codes are because I"m running catless with no tune. Diablo arrives this week and hopefully Jay Greene will be able to help me with these.

@Casper - where does the BCM physically live and look like? I'd like to start checking connectors to make sure I didnt accidentally disconnect it.

@RamCares - there are a few open recalls on my truck. Could this be the cause? One of them is the U61 recall for the PCM
