Just noticed my truck making a ticking noise when i start it up. I haven't noticed this before, is this normal?

My ticks just slightly during cold start up (below freezing) as soon as it warms up it stops.
If the ticking gets louder or continues it could be a sign of a head gasket or manifold gasket leak from my experience.

Does the ticking get louder or faster as you accelerate? Check the exhaust manifold for leaks.

Yep, I would say broken manifold studs. Noticed mine most on cold mornings till the truck warmed up. Had them replaced, and she purrs like a kitten even below 0.

So after searching this after you guys mentioned it I found out it's a very common problem. From what I've read it's covered under power train warranty, has anyone done this? I bought my truck used, it's a 2012 with 45k miles

When my truck first started ticking I only noticed it at start up. As it got worse it was noticable even at speed. But once the truck was warm even revving it you couldn't hear it.

Common issue and dangerous if it is lifter tick no problem if it's exhaust bolts. Take some one inch plastic hose and put one side to your ear, the other to each exhaust bolt. I encourage you do search the forum, it has been covered weekly, many good answers for both main causes of tick. It is called Hemi Tick.

Dropping her off at the dealer now. She's still under power train warranty. Find out in a couple of days what the problem is, although I'm positive it's the manifold bolts.3e749adc4888ade94487a28ebba26cec.jpg

Nice to hear it was covered under warranty!
In the last couple years the #s of broken bolts and warped manifolds seem to be going up at an alarming rate ....

Question: does the dealer reinstall upgraded bolts to keep this from happening or do they install the exact same bolts so it will keep reoccurring?

they told me they only replaced what was broken when I asked, but called back and said they replaced the entire drivers side with upgraded bolts. I guess that leaves the passenger side to fail.

Just makes me curious why the HEII they just don't install the So-Called (Up Graded) studs @ the time of build?

Or are they really Ugraded studs?
Im not a rocket scientist! But to me this is a pretty simple solution!

I think the root of the issue is the manifold warping .
Maybe the manifold should be of a different alloy and or thicker to help prevent warpage , and the manifolds should be retained by STUDS not bolts ?
