I'm really leaning towards buying a tuner for my 14 Ram 1500 5.7 with 6 speed. My main issue is the stock shift points are terrible. Specifically, say I'm at 50mph and it's in 6th. I step on the gas and try to get the trans to kick down so I can pass / accelerate at a brisk pace. All I get is a lot of motor wind up, a lazy shift to 5th (I think) then another second of motor windup and a harder stab on the gas finally gets me down to 3rd or 4th and it accelerates. Part of it is that the first pause/delay is the MDS turning off, then the lazy shifting. It literally feels like 2-3 seconds of major delay and just a bunch of engine noise just to down shift.

Will ANY tuner let me change my downshift points so I can actually quickly and safely accelerate?

Looking at the Diablo programmers, it's unclear. I see shift points but it seems to be relating to up shifts and holding a gear longer from as start.

any help would be appreciated.

Diablo tuner with a hemifever custom tune is your best bet. He will tune the transmission for you too

thanks for the response.

I assume the hemifever tune works with both the intune dcx and trinity?

I was leaning towards the intune since I don't need all the advanced workings of the trinity

no go, their website say the intune dcx does NOT support the 14 6 speed, only the 8 speed. now I gotta decide if it's worth the extra $$ for the trinity

You sure you got that right, just looked at it and say for "Adjustable Parameters"-Shift Points, that its not available for 8 Speed Automatics.

Well the trinity is capable of being used on tons of different vehicles so if you ever need to resell it you are able to unlike the intune which only fits a select limited

Trinity doesn't have Shifting Adjustments listed for '14 Ram with 5.7L Hemi.

I'll probably give them a call hopefully tomorrow just to confirm. Hope I'm wrong but here's the description from their online order page:

Supported Vehicles are: 11-14 Chrysler 300 ( 5.7, 6.4) 11-13 Chrysler 300 (3.6) 11-14 Dodge Charger (5.7,6.4) 11-13 Dodge Charger (3.6 ) 11-14 Dodge Challenger (5.7, 6.4) 11-14 Dodge Challenger (3.6) 11-14 Dodge Durango (3.6, 5.7) 11-14 Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.6, 5.7, 6.4) 11-14 Jeep Wrangler (3.6, 3.8) 11-14 Ram 1500/2500 (5.7) * 14 ram 8 Speed Trans Only
A 2011+ 6.4 SRT-8 Charger or Challenger will typically see a 15 hp and 20 ft/lb torque gain with no other modifications running the 93-octane tune. For the supported Jeep Wranglers, and 5.7L Rams our tunes are fully compatible with most cold-air kits and cat-back systems.

that's what really strikes me as odd. the higher priced model doesn't have shift adjustment but has everything else and more compared to the lower model. I'm not a master tuner and just want my MDS off and shift points adjusted so that's pretty much why I'm after the intune.

The DCX tuners have full trans support on the 14 6spd rams. I know this cause i had one. It was tuned by Sean. His tune will clean up the shift points but not as much as you will want but it will help a lot. Unfortunately this is the downfall of the 6 spd its built for fuel economy not performance. Its does not downshift sequentially and it hunts for gears too much.

I will say with a pro tune you will notice a HUGE difference in the trans alone and its 100% worth it, i can also promise you will hate driving the truck stock afterwards. BUT it will not even come close to the way a stock 8 spd performs.

The best thing you can do for a 6 spd is to tune it. The other best thing you can do is trade it for an 8spd - thats what i did..

Ps: the shift points and lock up can be tuned. Not what gear can be upshifted or downshifted. So he can tune how long you stay in a gear but when you slow down from 4th gear your still going to hold 4th until like 15mph then hit second like you do now.. but it will stil fall on its face slowly climbing hills...

thanks for all the info! I'm waiting on Diablo customer service to get back to me to confirm the 6 speed is still supported. I think the MDS is also slow to turn off on my truck, making it feel even lazier than it is.

Unfortunately trading for an 8 speed is not an option right now. This is my work truck so I bought the cheapest Ram with the options I needed. I just like the truck so much I drive it more than my car and on a daily basis, I can't stand the 6 speed. If I weren't driving it all the time, I probably wouldn't care so much. Wasn't a problem when I had my Tundra, didn't care to drive that thing unless I needed to.

Trust me you wont be disappointed with a Hemifever or Jay Greene tune.

Shutting off MDS is a huge help too. and I assure you all is supported on your truck, as it is for every 2014 6Spd Hemi Ram 1500 - there are many threads on here covering this topic

AARRRRRRRRGH! I hate California. I can NOT buy the tuner in California. It is not legal for sale here! I tried to order one and it automatically removes itself from the cart!

Question????
If I use the I-1000-DCX, can it be removed easy enough when I bring my truck in for service? I'd really hate to lose a 7 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. I have a 2014 Express, truck has balls, but I want bigger balls....
It's a 5.7 with 392's 8 speed.

The DCX does work on all 11-up Ram trucks, and all 6 sp trucks do have transmission support.

If you need to take it in for service, it only takes about 10 minutes to return the truck back to stock.

With all the good things said about Moe's, which tuners will I get the best bang for the $$$$. The only other mod I may consider is the throttle body.
I also want to be able to go back to stock easily.
Is this the best bang for the buck? I1000DCX
