Underquoted, Overcharged trans service

I took my truck to the dealer for a trans service, since i have been having noises come from it, if it goes out while under warrenty i dont want them to be like you screwed it from your service...
They quoted me 279.99 OTD, and i had a 25$ coupon. When i picked it up it was 278 OTD with coupon, so i looked at it, and this is what they did, (ill post a picture of receipt in soon.

Trans service :184
Waste 2.67
Filter pkg-trans oil 22.60
4x4 Filte-trams oil 42.50x1
ATF 4 4.35x7

Brake cleaner 4.15


Cant belive they charged for break cleaner, but what is in question is the 4x4 Flite Tans oil.... What is that?

Cant belive they charged for break cleaner, but what is in question is the 4x4 Flite Tans oil.... What is that?

My guess is they cut off the "r" in Filter to shorten it for whatever reason, so that line is most likely for the second transmission filter, as I believe those transmissions had two filters. Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

Don't take this the wrong way, but please tell me they didn't put "break cleaner" spelled just like that on the receipt. If your mechanics don't know how to spell "brake cleaner" properly, I'm not sure I would be taking my truck there.

If you have followed my post I have had grinding noises when engaging reverse when trans is warm, and they keep saying it's the solinoids. So I rather have them at least do the one serivce so if problems arise all service has been done at dealer. I would have done it my self otherwise.

Nope, there not filter that I know of in the xfer case.

To burla, that's normal fuction and sound according to dealer....

Well all I got is I would take it to a transmission shop and get their opinion that it isn't normal and already in a state of malfunction. Too bad you didn't have a tranny shop do that service, then they would be more likely to give you a break writing that up. I had a dealer refuse to fix a suspension squeak, got a lemon law lawyer and won 13 g's. I would be offended if they say grinding noise is normal. GL man, B

I brought it to local shop and they said it could be normal Chrysler trans have been known to make noise, but they wouldn't know until they opened up the transmission and diagnose it, that was going to be 3-600....

Basicly the dealer is putting you off long enough until your warranty is over, that's Standard Operating Procedure for warranty work. I have so many horror story's from the dealerships I promised myself I will never go back.

Send a xsmn oil.sample into Blackstone labs and see what they say about the wear metals , make sure you let them know the mileage on the xsmn & the mileage since the oil & filter change .
Too bad you didn't take a sample prior to the pan drop.

Did you happen to see the pan magnets during the pan drop ?

I asked to see it but they cleaned it and put it back together... So I got nothing of previous fluid... But I do have some of the old fluid in there, it was just a pan drop and filter change, evidence of failure would still be in there correct?

I'll go ahead and post a video tomorrow of the noise.

Yep less than 1/2 of the fluid is replaced with a pan drop , just let Blackstone Lab know the details on a separate piece of paper included with your sample .
You can get a free sample kit sent to you and just drive for 20 - 30 mins and take the sample through the dipstick tube with a long skinny tube , I believe Blackstone sales sample recovery tubes with a small hand pump as well .

They will give you a complete report and warn you of anything potentially wrong or a higher than normal of metals & what type of metals and whe re the metals are from .
They are pretty informative with their reports .

I'll post a couple of my Blackstone labs reports here so you can see what I mean .

Imo , I'd double the wear #s due to a recent pan drop & filters being changed.

I'd also put a minimum of 500 miles on it prior to the sample .
