Good morning, I bought a 2014 ram 3500 with 35,000 miles on it. Right after I bought It the water in fuel light came on, not knowing the truck I took it in and changed the filters and had the oil changed. All was good for a 1,000 miles and the light came on again, I went under the truck and noticed one of the wires on the sensor had it's coating scraped off and a little bare wire showing. It was raining the day it came on, could it have got wet then had the light come on? it's been dry a few days and I have got no warning or any meesages about water in the fuel. I am guessing someone did it changing the filter but when I asked them they did not notice it.

Thanks.

Yes, when I went to drain it I found the wire, thought it was strange to have water in the fuel so quick after the filter change.

Definitely could be the fuel, there is nothing like the various qualities of different stations and diesel fuel. Was a truck driver for a decade and I only drove Cummins in my truck and work truck. Sometimes I simply couldn't use some stations fuel. Tended to be the cheaper stations. They say this has changed these days, but it wouldn't hurt to switch stations if this kept up.

so I assume you did drain it? and I futher assume, there was water in the accumulator? If so, if the light comes on, again, might there be more water to drain?

Before I went under to drain it there were no trouble lights present or messages stored. It only flashed on when driving on the really wet road and that's why I am suspecting that wire, I drained both filters and they looked pretty green to me but who knows. I have a 7.3 liter diesel and have no troubles buying from that gas station for the last few years. Thanks everyone for the input on this issue, I appreciate the help.

In my work truck, I noticed every time I used Mobil fuel I had an issue.
It got as bad as changing the fuel filter every time we used Mobil diesel fuel.
Not sure why, but I feel it has something to do with bio diesel fuel.

Thanks Andrea I appreciate that. I am almost 100% convinced it's that wire, it has been frozen here and I have had no water in fuel light or messages. The sensors are pretty cheap so I am going to replace it as soon as the weather gets better.

I have been having this issue as well in a big snow storm. Coming back from MT the other day I had 13 w.i.f lights stopped every single time to drain and NOTHING CAME OUT. Code wouldnt clear, let sit for a bit and it would clear out. New filter about midway through with same issue. Last time code wouldnt clear even went as far as removing the filter and cleaning the contacts, finally cleared the next day on startup.one of many various codes i got on the drive home in blzzard conditions. Including service air filter (not plugged with snow and tube not kinked in fender, cleared itself after a few minutes and shut off while checking for restrictions. scr service required see dealer got all the way to 75 miles to 5 mph derate before it cleared itself on its own. Thewe are just a few of the occurences on my trip, and not the most major. Wish I could help you out. I have noticed the more I take to the dealer, the more I HAVE to take to the dealer though, not sure why.
