Hey guys, I've seen a lot of people say that they get about 14-15 mpg city.

I have a 2017 1500 5.7 Hemi. I'm averaging about 12.5 city...which is terrible.

I don't drive with a heavy foot or anything so I'm looking for other ways to improve MPG.

Has anyone had experience with air intake systems actually improving MPG a bit?

What have you done to your truck to improve MPG?

Try tow haul, in the city you might get better gas mileage from being in higher rpm, the opposite holds true on the highway. Look to gearing, this is the trend, what works in the city is opposite from highway as far as gaining mpg. if it works kinda cool because all you have to do his hit a button.

Tape a 1x4 to the bottom of the gas pedal.. :)

I would try a real cold air kit, or mod your stock one for more air flow and install a better filter.
Not sure if a better flowing muffler really helps but my truck ran better after the install.

Synthetic oils in the motor and diffs will help as well.
Is your truck all stock ?

Something doesn't seem right there. I can get 13-14mpg in stop and go traffic all day long and I don't have the 8 speed. I'm assuming you're running stock wheels/tires? Do you live in a hilly area? How's your highway mpg?

I have the Moes throttle body and a Sprint throttle booster, and bone stock otherwise. I average 15.5 in town. I'm guessing that my truck now requires so little throttle input to get moving, that I do fairly decent?

Thats what I thought too..
I don't live in a hilly area. Pretty flat. My highway I get about 19mpg average. This was my average after 2 300 mile road trips.

I'm running stock wheels and tires. Everything is stock except I added a tiny bit of weight with side steps but barely.

I'll trade you my 3.21's that will help! LoL no but I have bigger tires and 4x4 and a bunch of weight and I average 17.5.

How many miles on it? Not sure about the 5.7 motor, but my 6.4 got a noticeable increase in mpg after 8,000 miles.

Your 3.92's are killing you on the freeway not the city, I would just get out of it on the freeway and see the difference.

Let's clarify this, you don't THINK you drive with a heavy foot but if you're averaging 12.5 in the city then you definitely are, even if you don't think it, so unless your truck is brand new an still breaking in then 15mpg in the city with the 8 speed and 3.92 is easy to do. If you want to learn to drive it for fuel economy then here's a challenge: don't go above 2200rpm, you will be amazed at the fuel economy you get when you keep the engine in the low rpm band. We had OBDII trackers put in the company vehicles and it was a real learning experience for a lot of people who thought they drove economically but found out they were seriously mistaken. If you think that's impossible, give it a try, the 8 speed shifts everything nice and smooth to transition the gears to get you up to cruising speed. Before you do that though I'd reset the adaptives by pulling the battery terminals for 20 min then start from scratch.

Something seems not right with your truck.
Run some good injection cleaner for a few fillings.
Inflate your tires to 42psi all around.
Get a tonneau or a hardcover for your bed.
Someone here noticed better gas mileage after installing a cab spoiler. (@DRkNESS?)
Moe's ported Throttle Body got me a 0.2 better gas mileage.
The Pedal Commander has an ECO Mode, some tuner offer a mpg optimized tune.

I'm averaging 16.1 - 16.7 mpg mostly short distance city driving + some rural roads.

You guys are getting some good mpgs lol. I've got a 5.7 3.92s and the best I've ever gotten on a tank was 16.7... I do have 34x11 Toyo RT tires that are 64 pounds each lol BUT I do have a 93 hemi fever tune a cold air and a new muffler... I'm always tempted to seee what I'd get with P rated tires tho.. I'm running a 2012 RAM 1500 CC hemi with the 6-spd (which is really a 5-spd in auto mode) running 3.55 gears and I see anywhere between 12-13 city and 16-17 highway (75-80 cruise speed). These are manual calculations between fill ups. IME the onboard computer calculates 1-2MPG better than reality. I drive 5-7 miles one way to work so the truck hardly warms up before I shut it down.

This just my opinion. First, I don't believe any add on will improve mpg, otherwise it would come from the factory as stock.
Second, your city driving might be a bit different than other cities.
Third, fuel quality varies. Reg gas vs ethanol.
Forth, take out on an open hwy for a nice long drive and check your fuel mpg. This will let you know if you are least getting normal mpg.

In the end, enjoy your ram, a couple mpg is insignificant over the course of the year. This opinion is based on proper maintenance and tire pressure.

I just ran through a tank on my 2500, hand calculated at 14.9. But that includes 90 miles pulling my 33 ft camper..

14,9 mpg towing is phenomenal with a gas engine.

I don't drive with a heavy foot. I look down at my speed all the time after spacing out and realize I'm usually 5 miles under the speed limit (normally 45mph). RPM stays below 2000. Usually at about 1.5.

Truck is new though, just about to hit 3000 miles so hopefully the mpg will improve a bit with time.
