Will the snorkel be external? Look in to Varram. This is a front air intake

Water getting into the filter will depend on how deep the water is and how fast on goes through

If you leave this question up too long you will have more opinions on which ones the best. Most are personal preferences. So do the research and get the one you think is the best one for you.

the s&b is a nice CAI and stll provides some gain, the vararam leaves a little to be desired on the quality but it kinda forces air in from the grill strait to the throttle body where on the s&b air has to travel up the tube through the filter and then another tube giving the air more time to heat up again so its kinda a no brainer which one performs better.

S&B is what I went with after seeing quality issues with the Vararam

I did not, it is on my list though :)

I guess it could suck water in , but no way would it make it through the air box and filter and think it would have to be a perfect circumstance to even happen

Would be a good question to ask one of their engineers

When I was looking at sb's website they had it tested. They had the results posted along with a disclaimer of course. The testing concluded water can get in basically if it's a really bad storm with deep water puddles or mud. That's kinda a no brainer to me. If I have a scoop that's low on the truck I'm not going to go through anything like that. I honestly think the scoop is fine as long as you use common sense.

I have the S&B--great look , fit and finish.

I hear Vararam is best for flat-out performance because of the ram-air like design.

I didn't want to risk snow and sleet, so I like the S&B enclosed box.

I have the lower box opening, but do not run the snorkel--I think its cold enough that far down not to spend the extra $100 for the snorkel and high enough up I'm not going to suck rain or snow.

Could you tell a difference between stock and sb?

Again it all boils down to personal preference. I've got a K&N cold air intake and it works just fine.
