i dont have a diesel...yet! but when i do i would have to say straight pipe, gotta love the raw sound of the cummins! i had a first gen and had it straight piped. loved it. if your looking for something a little quieter i think MBRP has a pretty good sound or maybe aeroturbine? not sure, others will chime in though.

youtube is probably going to be your best bet to find out a setup you like, this way you can hear and compare different exhaust setup's. just an idea anyhow.

Matt's got you.

A muffler with the dpf won't do much of a difference.
I put just a delete pipe and the stock muffler (all 4" stock) on our 09 and its sounds pretty good!
I have friends with a silverline and a Mbrp muffler, they look and spun the same
They are a bit quieter and cut down on the drone a bit and are also a little quieter

I'm just running a cat and no muffler for now

I just cut the muffler out of line and put a straight pipe in. Sounds great I wish I could ditch the cat.

I run a 5" flo~pro turbo back with no muffler (straight pipe). It sounds beast but u will need a programmer to do so as stated above.

I always recommend Grand Rock's Powerflow systems.
That's because they've been a long time sponsor of mine but they really do make some nice kits for less money than others out there.

Do your homework on exhaust diameter
I'm not the biggest fan of 5" sound but if your pushing 500+ hp you need it
Some like the sound better to, it's all in your taste

This is true. A 4" exhaust will support alot of power, but I'm the type of guy that always mods thinking ahead. I would hate to buy a 4", then have to upgrade again after you outgrow that setup. If you know that you are going to stop modding after just a tuner, then the 4" is the way to go. If you plan to continue modding from there, then I would go 5".

That's untrue....I can show you several 1000+ HP diesels still running a 4" exhaust. I wouldn't even consider running over 4" unless you want the looks from it or you're running a charger with a 5" outlet. The Primary on my F250 had that size outlet and that's the only reason I ran 5"

I gained just over 20hp/20tq on my 07 5.9 by going from a 4" exhaust to a 5". I know that is a very small gain in the diesel world, but it did show an improvement.

I put that truck on the rollers after every mod to see what was gained, and in the end, it was a great running truck without many mods. Made over 600hp with a simple 64mm turbo and 90's...stock cp3. And that was with just a crazy larry tune.

Yeah, there was a post on CF that proved a 4" exhaust was fine for making big power with all vitals staying in perfect order. So the only reason to really go for 5" is sound or technical reasons.

I'm interested in going 5" after Matt's post though... Even a little gain is something.

CF.....lol

Is there something wrong with that, Mr. Gods gift to diesel performance?

Sorry if you think that forum is unreputable, but I still have alot of learning to do, so I try to read from every source there is.
