why does my buddies 2016 feel faster than my 2014?

So I own a 2014 Reg Cab and my buddy owns a 2016 Reg Cab.....only difference between the two trucks is the 2 years that separates them and the rear gears; mine has 3.21's, his has 3.92's

His truck is noticeably more responsive! faster!

Even the engine revs quicker.......WTF?

Besides the gear differences did RAM change their calibration from 2014 to 2016?

Any ideas?

I agree, the gearing is the difference. The 8 speed trans paired with the 3.92's will accelerate faster than the 8 speed with the 3.21's. But, as been mentioned, the 3.21's will get better mileage.

I agree the gears make the most sense right! but even just free revving the engine my buddies 2016 revs quicker and drops rpms quicker instead of the way mine feels like the engine takes a second to come down from the revs.

The 3.92's make a huge difference. Other than that, all engines are not created exactly equal (tolerances, variances).

The gears, and the fact that his is younger and tighter all around, so it will seem more responsive than yours anyways. If you want to level the playing field, get a CAI and Tuner and you will suddenly have more responsiveness and performance than you did when your truck was brand new :)

Or, do what I did and go supercharged :burnout:

I wish brother! I haven't had a supercharged truck in years! Would be nice but I've got too many home projects I need to fund!!

One of the advantages of being single with no family is that I can spend all my money on me :peace:

Another poor 3.21 victim......

I dont have the 8 speed. Just the good old 545RFE. With 4.10s.

I know the guys here, with the 8/3.21, say that the 3.92 doesnt make the truck any quicker.
But mathematically, that is not possible. But l say if the 3.21 is just as quick, then by the same logic, the 3.92 must get the same fuel economy.

Gas is cheap, right now. Gear down. Smile until your face hurts.

Yea, I personally don't think the gearing makes as much as a difference as people say.

In my old 94' 318ci Ram, I went from 3.55 gears to 4.56s and it didn't make nearly as much as an acceleration improvement as I expected. Of course, those old 318 engines make very little power to begin with, but still, much more was expected...

I got the 3.21's as well and the V8 so all that low end tq is fine with me. I couldn't imagine the 3.21's with the V6 as I had that combo in a Wrangler and it made 6th gear literally unusable.

There is a big difference between the 3.21 and 3.92 in the 8-speed.

They are pretty slow when they are sitting in the shop waiting on repairs. There was a Ford tech on a Ford forum I am a member of and he sold his Ford truck and bought a Ram. Apparently the Ecotooters are still having some issues.

I really doubt an F150 would beat a Hemi Ram... F150s are heavy as hell.
Stock ecoboost vs stock RAM, Ford will win all day long.

I've had a few that just walk away from the ram. They have a massive powerband with that turbo.
