My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 4x4 has a problem. When in park the RPMs go from 500 to 1000 to 500 to 1000 and doesn't quit until it is put in a gear. After placed into gear the truck ideal normally. I have searched a bunch of treads and can't figure out an answer for it.

The closest solution listed is for the same problem out of the 4.7 motors. Which lists the TPS as the problem. But the 5.7 doesn't have a TPS I don't think.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start with cleaning/replacing the EGR solenoid/tube and PCV, they can get clogged or fail and allow a change in the air flow into the intake manifold which the throttle body has to try and compensate and can cause surging.

Cleaning the throttle body is also prudent. I'd guess its an air intake issue. Something seems close to clogged
