Hey guys, I'm new here and I am hoping to buy a Ram truck soon, I have heard some things about the 3rd gen rams having transmission trouble, like they don't last very long and such. Do any of you guys have problems like this? Thanks

I haven't had a single problem with mine and I've done a fair amoumt of towing with it. I just did my 3rd transmission service at 158K miles. Welcome to RF.

That was the 1st and 2nd gen rams that had a weak tranny... these 3rd gens are solid.

No issues here

I only have 50K on mine, but no issues, and no concerns about issues. I too will "service" my tranny before winter.

See if the past owner has any maint records. That will be more telling than generational issues.

The guys that complain about trans issues either don't know how to maintain a transmission or abuse it with burnouts, break stands and WOT downshifts.

Thanks guys keep the info coming. If I do get a 3rd gen it will probably be a 2003-05 automatic.

Calling ********. I don't in any way abuse my transmission, with 96,00 miles on it I've had it service 4 times, each time including filters, flush & fluid. My first service was at about 6k due to leak down complaint. Start the truck, put it in any forward gear and go nowhere. This is a known to Dodge issue with these transmissions.

I heard it was due to over heating issues due to to small of trans coolers.... not sure of the truth of that but its what an old guy told me lol.
