Need to get some extra weight over my rear axle before the snow starts falling, My truck is so stiff and light in the rear that traction is limited.

Anyone use this "Water-Mat or Water-Bladder" before?

SHUR TRAX ALL-WEATHER TRACTION BLADDERS - JCWhitney

Probably just end up using sandbags or gravel, but wanted to see if there's really any reason to spend 80 bucks on this thing when I can just use sand/gravel.

I have seen them but never used one, always used concrete blocks.

I always thought the sandbags and gravel were better. Use them for added weight, then if you get stuck, you can empty them under your tires and stuff for better traction.

Blocks slide around too much, and I would hate to have one come through the back window in an accident. Before I got the shell, I used sand bags. I've known guys that used the bladders, but you have to be careful what you load on them or they can pop.

The bladders are nice, but when it comes down to it, just not worth the price. I'd rather use cheapo sand bags. As mentioned before, if you get stuck you can use the sand for traction.

I'm most likely just going to use some sandbags from tractor supply; probably use around 500lbs. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

Yeah, I have helper springs on my truck too; so it's pretty rigid back there.

Just can't justify spending 100 bucks on some water baloon!

growing up we always used cinders that they used for the roads, we would go to the county or city yard and get them to put a bucket in the back of the truck that way when you get stuck(not if but when being from Pa) you have something to help get yourself out with.

I have never used weight and I am on mud tires. Truck does just fine. I guess the shell probably helps although I have no idea what it weighs. 3 or 400lbs seem reasonable George?

I don't use nothing either, HD rear leafs and Wrangler Duratracs (Snowflaked Xtreme Winter Rated Year round tires). Traction is pretty good on ice too, but like George and Brett i have a Truck Cap, but not sure they weigh a whole lot cause its a 2 man lift. If I start spinning to much in the Zambonie type heavy stuff then just reach down and put her in 4HI. A buddy at work has a 2nd gen 1500 4x4 and he loads 4 sandbags between the wheel wells and a couple 2x4's cut to fit in each slit built into those beds each side of the wheelwell.

Theres another guy here who has a 2wd 3rd gen who works on Challenger Tanks and he just bolts a piece of Homogenous Armor Plating 2ft x 3 ft right over his wheels.

Might not slide when driving, but if you get in an accident and they fly out and hit something/someone, that is one hell of a law suit waiting to happen IMO.

I use sandbags, but don't need much with Hankook I*Pikes, they are awesome in the snow

Armor plating!? boy that'll get the job done.

My all-terrains do great in the snow and ice...

I just have absolutley no weight back there to help her out...
regular cab with helper springs- all my weights up front.

When I have a couple tons of soil or gravel in the bed it rides like a dream.:********:
