For about a month, off and on, I had trouble getting the truck in and out of gear while driving. No slipping, but maybe 3-4 times I had to pull over, shut the truck off in order to get it out of gear. Well, trying to quickly merge onto the highway it finally stopped being an intermittent problem. I had to stop, put it second, start it in gear and drive it to the mechanics. I also had to shut off the engine to stop... $1,000 later I have a new clutch. My previous high pedal engagement was proof that the clutch was almost warn away. Now I have a nice smooth pedal!

I hope you went with a high quality clutch. I had a Centerforce CLutch installed in my truck.

I had to go with what was available. The shop uses advanced auto parts, so it is likely they used a perfection clutch. I have a 4.7 so, it's not like I'm adding a ton of HP or anything. And I rarely tow anything.

I didn't have time to order parts, I needed the truck back the next day.

How many miles on your rig?

I got it with 82k back in February 2014, it now has 85k. The clutch engagement was high from the day I got it. It wasn't me who was ragging on the clutch!!!

But 80k - 100k seems about right for a clutch.

I have a perfection clutch set in mine, 20k on mine and not a problem at all. I had 2 carquest clutches within 6 months before they finally had enough of me and gave me the perfection

Seems a little early but when you don't know what they did with it before who knows. The manuals I have had I never replaced one but those vehicles did not get over 130K miles and we're not towing or anything so who knows.
