I literally spent an hour trying to decide where to put this thread at, hopefully I didn't put it in the wrong one! haha

Anyways I'm having a problem with my truck where the A/C won't blow as hard as it used to. I refilled the Freon properly but that didn't help. It still blows pretty cold but it doesn't blow hard when I have the fan knob to the highest setting and the A/C knob on "Max A/C" setting. I was thinking that it might be the fan? Oh and I replaced the Air Filter about 6 months ago. Any help is appreciated!

you can check the blend door to see if its blocking airflow. just drop the blower motor and reach up in there and see it the door is broke and blocking the path. if it is pull it out.

What Joe said, its actually the recirc door though. If the fan still sounds like its blowing hard then thats probably it. Theres just 3 screws holding the fan up in the passengers side foot well

i had the same exact problem with my truck, fan just didnt blow as much air as it used to, pulled the blower motor out and the recirculate/fresh air door was laying right on top of the blower motor. i just took mine and screwed it up to block off the fresh air so it was always on recirculate no matter what. havent had any more problems with it so far, that was about 4-5 months ago.

That only happened because the recirc door had so much dust on it and I struggled to take it out so quite a bit of debris from the door went through the vents. Thanks for the info anyways!

I was having the same problem. After reading this I went out and pulled the fan motor and there was that door sitting on top of my fan. I pulled the door out, be carefull their are some sharp edges up there, and put the motor back in. After reading Nesto's post, turned the knob to floor and let the dust blow out the bottom. I am so stoked now! The thing blows harder than a ......... You guys ROCK!

Awesome fix guys... Been a problem for 4 years. Sat down in my chair, read this, grabbed my toolkit, and bam... 30 minutes later it is blowing like crazy and I am happy! BTW - use a torx 20 to take screws out, but use a nut-driver when putting that back right screw back in. Much easier!

Heatertreater has a permanant but bit expensive fix for this common problem.

I am really learning to appreciate forums. I was able to fix this recirculation door myself after finding this forum conversation. This is the second time mine has broken. I have 2004 and the first time I just took it straight to the shop. Not this time!!! I will be replacing it with a stronger door! Thanks for the advice. By the way, my 04 has 236k and it has been an awesome truck. Some pretty hard miles and I just recently had to do some major repairs. Clutch, radiator, water pump, ignition. Love my Cummins!

Great fix! I thought I was going to die from heat at 107 yesterday and decided to seek an answer. Thanks all for such a simple fix! Wish I had done it 4 years ago when it started instead of deal with it!!

Simple solution

Thank you! I had suffered through a hot south Louisiana summer with very little air flow from my account. Everything else I had read had me taking apart most of my dash. This solution worked perfectly and I was done in less than 15 minutes.

Hey guys I have the same problem but when I turn my air on max it didn't blow until I get to at least 40 mph, even then it doesn't blow hard. Should I just bring it to a shop or is there some things I can do?

I'm going to necro this thread to tell you a secret.
Buy it a nice diamond for harder blowing.

After reading this thread I realized I had the same problem. Grabbed the tool kit, a beer and went outside.

The 3 t25 torx are easy enough to get to minus the back one. Definitely learned to go for that first to take out the blower motor and last when reinstalling. I say t25 because that's what someone else mentioned earlier in this thread but mine were t20. An 8mm socket plus extension also work along with a large flat head screwdriver if you don't have anything else.

Once the screws are out it's easy enough to wiggle and pop right out. I tested the blower motor with it out and it only kicked in when I put the fan knob to the highest setting. Thought that was pretty weird since when it was all installed again it came on for all the settings of the fan knob.

This is the culprit right here. It was just hanging out on top of the vent not doing a damn thing with about a 1" opening. I bought my truck used in 2011 and it has always been like that so I thought it was normal. When I had it in the shop about 2 years ago I asked a mechanic to check it out and see if something was wrong do he took out the motor and showed me it was fine. If only we would have looked up. The lower left side of the recirc door in the pic is broken.

I did. I mean i prob have it somewhere still, but what I've heard what's involved to replace or the cost to pay someone to replace that door it wasn't worth it imo. Been running w/o the door all summer here in Florida an it's working just fine for me an NOTICABLEY better than when it was blocking flow

Inherent problem, did the same fix here. Found out how to fix it here, too. Great info.
