Well after leaving the dentist for my 2 year old face planting into my fishtank. my truck started to make a vibration noise................wonderfull. When i got home the noise would get worse when i turned the wheel. Great Power steering is goin out. But after opening the hood i noticed it was the alternator making the Whirring, grinding noise. Not as bad but still not good. Any one here have any ideas how long it will last till it flies off the truck? Should i get one from a junk yard or try to find a cheap new one. Im strapped for cash and this is my only vehicle................FAIL

Theres a white Tag on it that has the Amps, if you don't have a Laramie or elect seats and all that Jazz you prolly have the Normal one (55 I think)! Mine had a whiney bearing sound for ower a year but not "Vibration". IMO it could seize anytime then you'll be out a belt and get stranded. I got one at the Auto recyclers for more than half the Price of new and it works great and real quiet. Up here they wanted 325 for a new one. Paid 75 for the used one.

Just a side note. I knew a guy who worked in alternaters and batteries. Double s starters, I doubt they are still in bussiness. That aside, these are not new items, They are all remanufactured. And sometimes fail within the first month. Just a heads up.

We had the one on the Windstar fail last year...salvage yard wanted $165 for a used one with a 30 day warranty...a remand one from Advance was $195 and it had a lifetime warranty. OUR SALVAGE YARD SUCKS.

I dunno when it happened but if it's not a pick n pull .Itprolly wont be a bargain. Used to be a great deal, now they just got way too greedy imo!!:flipthebird:

Yeah the only pick in pull is about 30 miles up the road...and it's a shot in the dark if they have what you are looking for cause they do not computer control any of their pulling stock. Only thing we have on the area is Barely Used Auto Parts

It was 198.95 a $32 core charge. for a remaned bosch alternator from advanced auto. after the core and a military discount its came to 150 and change. I wanted a better one but it was the only on they had in stock. and i needed it fixed.

Just think of it this way...if it has a lifetime warranty it will be the last one you ever have to pay for...
