I have a 2004 5.9L 2500 with 48RE (62,000m)

It has started slow engagement of Drive if it sits for a few days. It helps to put it in Neutral first and rev it a bit to build pressure. I had done a transmission service at 30K. Now it has started to clunk intermittently on deceleration. It feels like a band or something.

Any help in pinpointing the problem would be appreciated. Cascade on eBay is offering a complete solenoid upgrade kit. Can anybody speak for the quality of this kit and if it would help to do it all now?

Sounds like you have two issues here.

As stated above, the clunk is most likely a worn u-joint.

The delayed drive engagement sounds like a low-fluid symptom to me.
