There's several ways to go about and none of them are cheap. The best way is to buy a whole donor truck because you'll need a lot of parts. Either way it's not worth the time and money you'll have invested. You'd be better off just buying a 2500 with a Cummins and then you'd have a frame that can stand up to the extra power. Just for an example, ford guys that do swaps into super dutys usually say 10k+ is a starting point. If you paid a shop you'd be up around 20k.

Cummins 4 cylinder swap, the 4bt to be exact, would be better for our trucks. Doesn't put out frame twisting torque, but definitely has its advantages. Mate it to a 5 spd and you'd have a better mpg truck with probably similar towing capacity with the right gearing. And 4bts aren't as expensive as the 6 banger. None the less, still expensive due to computer shenanigans and what not.

I have the option to buy a 5.9 24v cummins with the turbo its an entire truck its a 2002 dodge 2500 with blown tranny I can buy it for $2500.00 was thinking of using this as my donor I don't wanna buy a cummins because I have almost 6000.00 invested in aftermarket parts in my ram 1500 and would love to keep my upgrades in my 3rd gen

Brother, I don't believe this to be a good swap. The diesel in a half ton will be a disappointment and probably dangerous. You would be ahead of the game in my book to sell the hemi truck and buy a nice Ram 2500 diesel to build. It just too much trouble dealing with the electronic's and changes you would have to make to the 1500. Plus you've will loose the value of your Ram 1500 and will need a ton of money to complete the swap. Alternative is to keep the nemi truck and buy the broke diesel and repair it. That way you have a great tow truck for the hemi when racing...

Putting a Cummins in a 1500, imho, is a terrible idea. It'll cost a lot more than you think, take a lot more time than you think, and it'll still be a half ton truck. 1500s aren't built to handle the power of a Cummins and you'll never be able to use it to its full potential. If you want a Cummins, buy a 2500 or 3500.

2500 has a twisted frame useless to rebuild but ya was just wondering wasn't very literal about it but most likely just buy the truck for the axels and engine and use it in another project

I plan on buying a wrecked 07 or 08 Cummins with a good drive train and suspension and just swapping bodies.

I have seen frames being sold on ebay and salvage yards.
