You need a repair manual in order to troubleshoot the EVAP Purge Flow Monitor / System Performance. I could be as simple as an dirty plug / connection. Good luck.

One should never simply replace random parts. I am working through two codes right now p0440 and p0441. I am not following my own advice. I changed my gas cap, and changed the NVLD and cleared the codes. I also checked the lines in that area, and couldn't find any leaks. The hose clamp going to the NVLD was busted. I got 4 hose clamps and changed the NVLD. Don't do what I did, but this info might help along the way.

When mine pops that code it means the Gas cap was not on tight.

Most common is the gas cap. But with the fuel pump in the gas tank, there are expensive possibilities as well.

Check the hoses going to the charcoal canister mounted at the frame under the truck. I got that code on my old Dakota 4.7 and the lines were dry rotted and cracked at the canister. New hoses fixed my problem.

I recommend you study the system to understand how it works. It is not difficult then to break it into sections for trouble shooting. Gas tank must hold a vacuum, typically the gas cap or canister hoses. NVLD has to actuate, sometimes sticks or the switch is bad. Purge valve not providing a vacuum, typically the vacuum line has become disconnected or plugged. There has been a couple folks who have posted how they have circumvented the system.

To report back. Mine was the NVLD. My codes have not come back after about 500 miles. I had both 440 and 441. I replaced the NVLD and got 4 proper hose clamps (it could have been a combination of the hose clams and the NVLD).

Way to reset check engine light?

Hey I had a 0441 and 0440 code showing, come to find out that my damn gas cap wasn't on tight enough. Is there any way to clear the code without one of those readers, like after driving a few miles?
