Mine varies a good mpg from winter gas to summer gas also...something else to consider. And yes thats a thing

I'm up in Fairbanks, AK where temps get real real cold and we are already seeing our winter blend and my mpg has dropped 1mpg pretty quickly. Kinda sucks when winter is 7 months here lol

What exactly would be keeping the rpms down be??
I never go over 4k rpm, and that is very rare except for steep hills!

Slower acceleration, limit your "stoplight racing". That sort of thing. Take your time getting places. I can get to and from work, 7 miles each way, under 2300 rpms.

This!
Also, keeping the mindset that "using the brakes is the biggest gas waster."
For around town driving, the easier you accelerate and judge your speed for stops/turns to avoid using the brake will help you learn to keep your foot off the gas

2002 5.9l 4x4 CrewCab 1500 w.3.55 gears.

Day one I averaged 12 on the interstate. Day three after properly inflating, then going over by 5 lbs all 4 tires. Cleaning the K&N air filter then enlarging the air box inlet I averaged 15 on the interstate.
Not a bad return, however I am trying to find a local source for tuning without results yet :(

Wow... and here I was thinking my 2006 1500 Quad Cab Short Bed 4x4 Hemi was getting low mpg when imy averaging 14.8mpg to 15.5mpg on the overhead display... apparently this whole time I'm actually getting decent mpg compared to others. I was hoping for around 17mpg-18mpg. All I have done motor wise is a cheapo ebay intake where the filter sits down and almost under the passenger headlight. I didn't see really any mpg gains from it.

Thanks to all!! I guess I"m not going to see much better then what I am getting. I am waiting on my K&N to come in the mail and when I can I will pick up a tuner, I think I have seen that the Superchips 3845 is for my truck.
I guess this is what I get for trying to get a truck that fits the whole family comfortably! (5 of us plus the dog!!)

Now of course I notice that my rear pinion seal seems to be leaking!! Lucky me!! wonder what this is going to cost!!!!

To get my rear pinion seal replaced at my local Dodge/Ram dealership it only cost me $118. I don't know if the Mega Cab is more expensive to fix then my Quad Cab but I can't see it being much different.

Just changed the oil and ran a can of sea foam through mine. Reset the overhead readout and drove 2.5 hours. Country roads, then a nice 100 mile stretch of 75 mph interstate. Pulled in the driveway with 18.1 on the readout. Idk what you guys do to these things.lol I have a hard time believing my tune and bolt ons is gaining me 5 mpg. It was actually getting 20 before I bumped the speed up to 75.

Bro in law has a 04 2500 on 37's. His readout shows 12. And he didnt even know he had it. Lol I showed him where it is. So how anyone with an 8 speed could even get near that....they must be going through rear tires too.
