I keep running through my head that I want a 2500 diesel.

I currently have a 2014 1500 Hemi fully loaded sport. I have owned a 2nd, several 3rd, and 4th gen trucks.

List:
- 99 1500 Sport with 5.9 4x4
- 00 Dakota v6 4x2
- 05 1500 Hemi 4x4
- 05 1500 SRT-10
- 09 1500 Hemi 4x4
- 14 1500 Hemi 4x2

I am looking at the 2006 with the 5.9L cummins before all the emissions BS came into play but I am not sure if I can get myself back into a GEN 3 after being spoiled with the last two 4th gens and the newer interior.

I think the exterior of both trucks can look amazing but the interior and electronics of the 06 truck is definitely hard to compare to the 4th gen.

For those with the 06 5.9L how do you like your trucks? Any issues or complaints with this year? How many miles and what kind of mods and mpg do you get?

Living in CA I can't delete any of the emissions of the 06.5+ trucks so thats why I am looking at this as an option.

Best vehicle I have ever owned (been driving since 1960). Traded an 07 Tundra for it. The truck is an 06 5.9 CTD Laramie quad cab. 4X4 140K miles, average is about 21.5mpg. Built in late (Oct. I think) 2005. I am totally **** about maintenance. I've had a few issues with it that required a trip to the shop. Refused to shift out of park, $30.00 parts $300+ labor. Had an oil leak that was caused by a bad sensor (forgot the cost). Right now the nav system is only partially working, the GPS part works but the controls for navigating don't. I had to reinforce the "A" pillar grab handles one failed and dumped my brother in a parking lot. Use it as a daily driver and to pull a toy hauler and twin axle utility trailer - both bumper pulls. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I ordered an 06 dodge ram hd 3500 quad cab, srw 5.9 Cummins from the factory, 6 speed standard tranny 4x4, took delivery of it Feb of 06, currently just shy of 352,000 miles on it, 1st year removed catalytic converter and factory muffler and installed a high flow muffler, after the stock 17" tires (Bridgestone) wore out at 83000 miles, I replaced them with 19.5 commercial trk tires, 14 ply, can't remember offhand what programmer I have for it, but has 3 power settings, lowest setting is for towing and I just leave it there, can program different tire sizes with it, top end speed, and if you have an automatic, shift points and firmness, besides usual wear items, u-joints, king pins, ball joints, etc, the only problem with the engine is for that year cummins, the #4 fuel injector line will break about every 120,000 miles, no problem, it's about $45, easy to get to, you can replace it in 10, 15 minutes. Used to do a lot of towing, got as good as 18 mpg, and as bad as 6 mpg, average was around 11 to 14 mpg, mt running 70 on the freeway, I average 22.7 to 23.2 mpg, hope that helps you out

Why do you want/need the 2500? Hauling? Towing?

Just cause I prefer the diesel over the gas engine. I daily a 06 TDI and have just been spoiled with the longevity and feel of a diesel.

I've clocked hundreds of thousands of miles in several HEMI trucks and know they are bulletproof but want a diesel this time for when I tow a 24' race trailer with my car in it, so I don't have to listen to the HEMI sitting at 3k rpm just to maintain speed on a flat. Been there, done that...

Thanks for the response! I know these are the last of the bulletproof Cummins before all the emissions requirements. I'm still on the fence. If I didn't already have this truck with the financing it would have been a no brainer but im currently locked into this thing without taking a huge hit...
