Okay. I am looking to buy a used ram diesel and I have found three trucks that I think are good deals, but I need help choosing, because I know very little about the pros and cons of each year model. The 03 and 05 have the 5.9, whereas the 07 might have the 6.7, which has the emissions crap on it. I've heard 05s are a great year for the Ram diesel.

Are you able to see them all in person?

No I cannot see them. They are all two to three hundred miles from me. I have heard the same about the 05s, but I have also read that the 03s and 04s are better because of the injectors going bad on the 05 due to ultra low sulfur diesel.

This might seem like an odd question, but is there in difference in the size of the rear cab between the three?

Also, when people say "Emissions crap on the 07" what exactly are they talking about? I have only owned one diesel before and it was total junk. It was a 93 Ford F350. It got like 9 MPG and the trans went out within a couple months of me buying it (in 2009). I gave that piece of crap to a guy who thought Ford hung the moon because I was not going to a dime fixing it.

Early gen emissions screwed fuel mileage and could cause problems I heard. I believe all the rear cab sizes are the same

Quad cabs for those years should all be the same. The bodies are slightly different but the basic cab is the same for those years and doors/fenders and stuff can be swapped between them.

Traveling with anyone? Kids? Quad cab may be tight for such a long trip for more than 2 people. Crew cab would be much more comfortable.

I'd go with the 03 or 05
