Well as most of you know I dont run my truck that often and this cold spell is hard on trucks batteries . I havent ran the truck in about 2 weeks and its been in the lower teens for a good time now .
Well went to go out and start her up .... the key fob wouldnt even unlock the doors ...lol Battery totally dead .

So I stuck the charger on it and got her started . But got me thinking CTD's have plugs for the glow plugs right ?? well I made my own plug . I got 15ft of 2 wire and a male and female plug end . Some fish eye wire connectors and got to work .

First I cut 4ft of the wired cord and attached the fish eyes to the end and bolted them to the negative and positive post on the battery . then on the other end I wired up the female plug . Ran it out next to my bar .

Then took the other section hooked it up the the battery charger and installed the male plug end .

Now I can just flip a switch on the charger and have my battery tended to all winter . Its not a tender but a charger so I going to figure out if I can leave it hooked up all the time .

RH is your gonna do something like that check out that new product they got out, I think it's called battery tender or something. It's relatively small and you can leave it hooked up all the time while it's parked obviously lol.

Oh ok, lol I wasn't sure if you knew about em or not. I think that'd be a better way to go, with the charger you could overcharge it and end up with a swollen plastic blob if your not careful. I'm not sure if the same would happen if it was on like a 2 amp charge but I'm sure overtime it would produce the same effect as on like 10 or 20 amp.

Well the charger I have is not a maintainer so I ordered a tender and I will just wire it up how I have it now . The plug works good and easy . Those naner clips are a pain in the ass . This way I dont have to pop the hood .

Yeah, mine has 3 settings...a 6 volt ? amp setting, 12volt 2amp setting and a 12volt 6amp setting...it was relatively cheap too, like less than $30

CTD's don't have glow plugs. The cord is for the block heater. To keep the coolant temps @ 150 to ease starting.

To make it more permanent and more secure install a Wigidigit.

I like the plug JoJo has. Definately do not leave your charger on too long or you will fry your new battery.

Just a note a discharged battery can freeze, so it might be best to bring the battery inside to thawl out before charging. Also, freezing a battery often wrecks the plates. Did I mention I hate the cold..
