Hey I am looking to purchase a local 2003 Ram 2500. 120k miles with V10. 2 wheel drive.

Pretty decent shape. I am about to pull the trigger and want to make sure I am not overpaying. Blue book says 14k for the SLT option but that seems way too much.

Appreciate quick help!

That is about right for one that is in pristine condition. Check out the condition REAL GOOD. Ask the owner for a carfax report (a dealership or a used car place might help you there), and if the maintenance has ben done regularly. Ask the owner to go with you to take the truck to a mechanic YOU trust. If the owner will not do any of those things WALK AWAY.

It's not the viper thou, just a standard 2500. I Didnt think this would go for around 14k. Especially with gas prices these days, and not being a 4x4

He said it is the SLT SB, i'm not sure what he means by SB?

The condition is not excellent. It is fair at best. Crack in the dash, and a few minor dings on the outside.

If it has the V10 then it is the detuned Viper motor. I have an actual Viper Motor and T56 transmission in my truck. Gas mileage is decent when my lead foot stays sane. SB might mean Short Bed. Dodge offered the SRT10 in several trims. 2wd and 4wd. Most of them were the 2500's but you see a few (and I mean a very few) 1500 SRT10's around.

The truck V10 is an iron block, iron head engine. The VIPER V10 is aluminum block aluminum head. Two different animals. Still, a clean V10 truck is fairly rare...hell, a V10 truck is rare to begin with.

rare maybe yes ! but it does have 122,000 miles on it :( Which is why i dont think its worth 14 or even 12 grand. I am wondering if I pick this truck up for 10,000$ is it a great deal or just a fair deal?

There are trucks down here selling for $12k with 150k MI on them....so 122k isn't a lot. lol THE problem with V10 trucks is parts availability. (well, besides gas, but still)

If the truck is really clean and all mechanical bits check out, $12-4k isn't entirely unreasonable me thinks.

I would offer $10k and see what they say. DO not go above $12.5k though. Blue book value is a suggestion of the price. The value will depend upon the condition of the truck completely.

As mentioned a V10 and SRT Viper two different trucks. The V10 to my knowledge was a HD version of a gas 2500 and also came in 4x4 version. If you have an interest in a HD truck, then 10k would be a ok deal. I would think it would be priced in between a diesel and a hemi with the same options and condition.

06 they offered the SRT10 for the 2500's. 07 and 08 you were stuck with the SRT8.

Srt-10 came in RC and QC in the 1500 platform only. Qc got the automatic and rc got the 6 speed.

The v10 2500 in question here is not a choked out viper motor. It has iron heads and block as previously stated and enough torque to pull a house down.

Back to the original question, 14k seems a little steep for an 03 2500 gasser with the slt package. At the same time, if the truck and everything else is pristine then 10.5-11k wouldnt be a bad place to make an offer.

10k is an average deal. The v10 2500 is not as desirable as you would think.
