I thought these trucks had sealed systems? I was under my truck putting some grease in my Universal joints and thought I would just check upfront to see if there was anywhere that I could add some grease and to my surprise I found some fittings on the suspension up there. Is that normal for 2002? only reason I ask is I noticed that my front shocks are Sensa-track and not OEM so I was thinking that maybe whoever owned before me changed the components of the front suspension to ones that had fittings. What's strange to me is that I only find one on the left lower side and none on the right side at all. I'll post a picture .
Any thoughts on this?

Those lower Ball joints don't nor mally have a fitting, even the after markets however not unusuall. I have one upper that has a nipple out of 2 and both tie-rods as they have been replaced along the way. Shocks require changing every 48 K miles by the book so that would be normal too.

I would assume they have been replaced

wouldn't you think that if one side was replaced that they would have done the other side as well? isn't that common to replace both sides even if you only really need to do one side? I would have thought that I would see a grease fitting on both sides

That is weird. I would think both would have been replaced too.

those must be aftermarket, i IIRC it's moog that makes greasable ball joints?

There's several companies that make greaseable, moog are pretty much top of the line though
People are wierd/stupid which is why you have to be really careful buying any used vehicle

Was looking at mine 2 weeks ago and IMO Its seems to be a fairly big job to replace the lower ball joint on a 3rd gen 1500 4x4. I have some side to side movement on passenger side but no up and down (Original part). So I plan to replace just the one side. The other appears to have been replaced by 1st owner and does not have a nipple. There is not much clearance between the control arm and Knuckle (maybe why) and it looks like the new balljoint will require to be pressed in on a press so its got to come off.

I do agree that Tie-rods should be changed in pairs as an alignement is needed.
