I've got a 2004 dodge Ram 1500. Its got a really bad squeaking in the rear. I added a super lift add a leaf in the rear and the squeaking started happening about a month later. A truck shop told me leaf spring bushings are bad. They said it will cost 650 for new bushings and shackles. Should I bite the bullet and go that route that the mechanic told me. Or should I just buy all new leaf springs from sd truck parts for $120 each and let them install them? Would this fix my issue with the squeaking and if I bought the new leaf springs would I need new shackles? Any info is greatly appreciated.

$650 for bushings and shackles is ridiculous.

I thought the same thing. Do you think it would be cheaper to just get the new leaf springs and would that fix my problem

No, shackles and bushings would be cheaper. Why not buy them and replace them yourself?

$650 for bushing replacements? That's absolute robbery.

Shackles are $45 each from Rockauto and come with the rear bushing for the leaf springs.
Front Bushings are $45 each from Rockauto.

So that's $180 in parts and about 4 hours labor. You could pull the springs and knock the old bushings out, then take the springs to a machine shop and have the new ones pressed in and save about $400. If you lived near me, I have a 20 ton press, you could bring them here and I'd punch the old ones out and the new ones in in under an hour if they're already off the truck.

The reason I dont do it is because I am not mechanically inclined at all. And am afraid of screwing something up.

It's honestly not that hard. If you go polyurethane you won't need a press to install new ones. Plenty of videos on YouTube as well.

The only drawback with poly is that they're noisy as hell and your truck will sound like a 1975 F150 when you hit bumps unless you take them apart and grease them all the time. I have poly bushings in mine and wish I would have just went with rubber because of the noise.
