Hello,
I am a first time car buyer and I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 ST 4.7L 4WD truck in my sights. I am buying from the original owner who put 136,500 miles on it, replaced the spark plugs a thousand miles ago and has brand new tires on it. It was listed at $3,800 but I was able to bring it down to $2,800. However, there are a few issues, most notably the check engine light is on and had the code P0300 when I ran the meter. The truck is in good shape otherwise, but did hesitate some while I was test driving. I know this misfire could mean a number of issues but I am wondering if you guys think this buy is worth it. I am set to pick it up on Saturday but have raised my concerns to the owner based on the fact that in order to register the car in my state I need to pass an emissions test. All advice welcome.
Thank you

In my personal opinion I wouldn't go for it. The truck seems like it has a lot of rust not only that but you never know if the engine could be a major thing or not. I feel that if you look in the right places you can get a cleaner truck for less. But that's just my opinion.

Man... look at those faded headlights!

I'd keep looking, even though my first truck was way worse than that one.

Where do you live? Do you have the option to drive south and find a rust-free truck?

Frame doesn't look terrible, all depends how much you want to put into it (effort/cost). The two bedsides and tailgate are probably around 2k in itself for a straight primed steel replacement

You got a point Jon.... or you could always throw a flatbed with some stake sides on it!

You could get panel patches for Atleast the rear fenders for about 100 a piece, new tailgate 500 or scrap yard it for 50$. Or heck craigslist for an entire new bed, dually beds are 900 Canadian where I'm at ;) ;)
