I need info and advice to pass along to my brother-inlaw. I don't know too much on the first year of the 3rd gens. He wants to get another vehicle and I think its a bad idea but anyway I need the good and bad on the truck hes looking at. Its a 2002 Ram QC 4x4 with the 4.7. I think its a bad move on a few points to start with, more $$$ for gas, downgrading from his current vehicle a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.7 V6, and my major concern its a 2002 with less then 50k on it there's gotta be something wrong with it.

Here is a link to the truck Used 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4wd Quad Cab SLT in Naugatuck | Connecticut

Give me the info good and/or bad please.

ask them if you can take it personally to a mechanic that you know and have them check everything to make sure. could be the owner just never drove it. or an older person. friend of mine got his car for $4000 and only had 72k miles on it and it was made in 1994. sometimes you just find something as rare as low mileage lol.

I got my 02 almost 2 yrs ago with only 50k on it, fully loaded, heated leather, sport, with a warranty for that much and mine runs and looks brand new. But I agree on the old mans truck. Nothin wrong with that tho.

The low mileage truck would get my interest a lot more than 100k truck. That is roughly 460 miles per year. That is def' possible.

If low mileage is a major worry then i sell my 119k 04 ram for 9.5k...lol.

That thing was driven by an old guy. I bought a 93 Wrangler once that had 47K on it when I bought it in 2005. Old guy had bought it. The only place it went was into town and back every morning to meet at Hardees...

geezer truck, don't drive it much. :D

X2

Saw a 98 Ram the other month at Walmart. The guy had just bought it from a geezer, had less then 50k. Looked like it just came off the assembly line.

At least in doesn't have the 5.9.

I'm going with farmers nice truck or old man truck. You can actually find a lot of these around here.

I've got a'79 Power Wagon my grandpa bought new with 34k original miles. Basically a farm truck. Driven in the fields, to town, pulled the occasional wagon. Sat outside most of the time so the body is rough, but the rest is rock solid.

I would change fuel depots. Try some shell gasoline, It may help a little. in the stalling out dept.

I agree, But the price is a little high, oh thats right Ct , everything is overpriced.
A litt;e cheaper and it would be well worth it. gas/oil is only 84 bucks a barrel lol.

thats the truth LOL Gotta love CT.

My durango 4.7 would do a funny starting thing and then get flooded and a PITA to get running again. Never figured it out but my next bet was checking for a bad injector. I had no vacuum leaks and it was doing before I changed the plugs.

And what's wrong with a 5.9 ? I'll never sell mine.

I've got three trucks and a Harley, each vehicle has low miles since I'm retired and drive 4 different vehicles. Now considering that I try to maintain each like it's the only one I own, it's very possible for the low mileage and still be a very good buy. (never had a person complain when I sold them my used vehicles).

Like the housing market, prices are inflated the last several years because of the economy, auto manufactures, EPA, fed & state government ... and will never go down.

Have him take it to a qualified and trusted mechanic to get all problems listed.
Also, check recalls listed on the http://www.recall.gov website and with the VIN check Dodge to see what should have been done and if it was done.
Then decide ...

CarFax is a good resource, but I never trust it. They can't record what you do.

I sold a little gas pickup used for to and from work for 13 years. When I sold it, I had my own records and receipts. I did it all. Never had it in for the 1st 7,500 service per the manufactures schedule or after. I only had 400k on the speed-o when sold and lived in California then. Never failed a smog check or had 'any' problems.

Yet a CarFax would have almost nothing on it.
I guess if you buy from someone that only turns their vehicles in for everything might be worth it.
But to me, it tends to indicate they only do what 'HAS' to be done.

^^ Actually if it was in a recordable accident. (Police are involved) That will be listed. As well as regular maintenace at a dealer.

and the severity of the wreck, I.e. air bags deployed, front end collision, etc.

also if it was a rental car. which seams to be a popular "incident" I noticed after shopping for my wife a newer car.

I do less than 8k a year in mine. Follow me to the dealer when I trade it in because like the last one (12 years old, 76k miles) it will be in top running order.
