Sup guys I'm in the market for a dodge ram quad cab and I came across one at a dealership. It's a 2003 dodge ram 1500 4.7l 2wd. Are these trucks any good? Will it be able to tow a race trailer for quads? Nothing to big.. Some say switch to 4.56 gearing? How much does that cost? I heard this truck doesn't have power but other people say it does.. I'll attach a pic. They are asking 10k for it but he will take 7k. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks ImageUploadedByTapatalk1392153972.395162.jpg

$7k for the truck pictured???? Is it a salvage title? How many miles?

With the "smaller" motor and large aftermarket wheel / tire combo and your intention to tow with it, rear end gears would be a great idea.

The entire truck (other than the drivetrain) is the same across the board, and it sure looks clean and nicely cared for and tastefully modded.

That price sounds damn good to me. Unless it has been crashed out and rebuilt with crap parts and just happens to look sweet due to the rain.

It's a 2wd 4.7 truck. They don't hold their value like a 4wd hemi would have. Still a nice looking truck. It won't tow fast, but will still get you there. Definitely will need gearing to turn those wheels and pull a trailer.
I'd watch the mileage and see how tired the engine is if its been turning those wheels for years. Compression check wouldn't be a bad idea.

Clean title. Truck has 103k miles. The first thing I'm gonna do is the gears.. Roughly how much would it cost to have a shop put in 4.56 gears? Is it a easy job to do? Any special tools needed.? Thanks

Gears for a 2 wheal drive truck shouldn't be too much. I believe they have to shim inside the diff a little, but because they only have to do the rear it shouldn't be too expensive

I wouldn't pay more than 7k for it. 03' with 100k isn't bad

Only problem I see is it is a lifted 2wd. Not too fond of those trucks myself.

Great looking truck! I like the Spyder halos, and that SRT hood is bad! As mentioned above, the 4.7l on what look to be 35's, its not gonna drive with much power. A regear would help a lot with towing. Someone correct me if im wrong, but you should be able to have parts and labor done for around 500-1000 bucks. Worth the money imo

Get ready for a gas hog with the underpowered engine and that lift. Then add a trailer to it full of quads? Good lord.
I would wait for a hemi to roll around and get one that is 4x4. That's what I wish I would have done.

Or just buy a different truck. Haha
Which I'm also considering after I just got my truck a month ago. I would love to have a cummins.
But for pulling a trailer 2x4 or not, it'll do the job

Ok went and checked it out today and there's no way I coulda bought that thing.. 2wd is horrible! Couldn't even get it out of this spot with a few inches of snow.. They Had to tow it out. I've decided to spend 2200 more and get a nice f250 super duty crew cab lots of money into it and I think it's a great deal. Tons of power and it has 4wd!

One quick question. Can anybody tell me why the previous owner put 3 chains underneAth it? Like the chains are hanging from side to side. One in the front one in the middle and one in the rear.
