For general everyday use, a lot of folks like the bilstein 5100 series. They're a little on the expensive side, but I had them in my 04 ram and loved the ride. A great compromise of handling vs stiffness. A little stiffer than new OEM, and tend not to wear out as fast, at least in my experience.

On a budget, Monroe sensa tracs are decent. Rears are $30ish each from rock auto, they're the yellow ones. For the front, I bought all new coil over setups from Monroe as well. Part number 171111. They run about $110 each, but no hassle with having to take your old coils off and reinstalling them.

Bilsteins.. Only a few bucks more than normal shocks and lifetime warranty.. Plus they ride great. Can't beat it.

Bilsteins are awesome, especially with a 2wd then you can use the SRT spec shocks.

While on the Bilstein shocks topic I have one question. Has anyone that is running them noticed a difference with payload or towing capabilities? I've heard people say you can haul/tow more than the stock shocks

i replaced all my shocks with bilstein 5100's and i love them, i don't remember exactly the price for all four because i bought new tires and leveled it at the same time but they were something like 60-80 buck a piece. 4 wheel parts has decent labor fees on them as well. unfortunately at the time i didn't know how to do it myself, but i'd definitely check out the bilsteins

A shock is for is dampening the suspension, a spring is for load bearing. A notable exception is struts..coil-overs..etc. Bigger shocks will just dampen bigger forces.

That's the direction I was thinking. Thanks for the clarification
