New truck

I just found me a nice 2007 Ram 2500 SLT Lone Star edition, with the 5.9. It only has 103k on it. Truck is CLEAN. This will be my 1st diesel. It has a Bully Dog GT programmer on it. I'm gonna use it to pull my toy hauler camper. My 2012 ram 1500 with 5.7 pulled it ok, but at 8mpg.

This thing seems to shift really hard. I uninstalled the Bully Dog and returned truck back to stock, but it still shifts really hard. I keep reading that this is common on these trucks. Any input from here would be appreciated.
