Is it lame to install one of those onboard air compressors on a 2wd? I have seen them mainly on 4wds so they can air up their tires after they go off road. Here is why I want one on my 2wd. I work in construction and sometimes I have to use air tools. Also, it would come in handy to air up my tires on demand after I pick up the occasional nail on the job site.

It's your truck so set it up like you want or need.

Do you have to give up your AC compressor to do it?

do it! I'm putting load bags on my truck after I lower and I'll throw a compressor in the bed off to the side to quick air those up and down. would be a nice addition. like everyone says, your truck so make it how you want!

and no you wouldn't have to give up your A/C compressor. those two aren't mutually exclusive

I have actually been thinking about this as well. I have a small electric compressor and tank that were left over from another project, and they're really too small to use for a full airbag install, but I think that they would be perfect for the McGaughy's helper bags. Wire up a gauge and switch and I'd always have air on demand. Maybe even add a fitting for a small air hose for emergency tire air-ups.

I have a small onboard that I use to air my helper bags...have gauges in the cubby and the switch off to the left almost where to column shifter use to be.. I'd like to figure out a way to run a hose to it so I could air tires if I ever need to..

I have one on my 2wd truck. I use it for my train horns and for onboard air. I put a Chuck on the back bumper for hooking up a air hose. I have a switch inside the truck to turn the compressor on and off so if I ever develop a leak it won't run all night and kill my battery.

OP, you'd be hard-pressed, I think, to use the kind of small compressor I believe your're thinking of for air tools without a tank of some kind. Most tools use a large volume of air.

Compressor, horns, and chuck.
