I currently have a 3" Magnaflow muffler, flow through. It is great and loud as anything, however, when loaded, it creates such a drone that it hurts to be in the cab. What would the best muffler be for towing that still adds to performance but doesn't require ear plugs on hills?

How long is the muffler? Is it dumped? Run out the side past the rear wheel? Straight out the back?

It is the original stock pipe with the Magnaflow, the muffler is 18", would that be my problem, too small a muffler?

a longer muffler would definitely quiet it down some. Maybe you could try putting a resonator on after the muffler

18" really isn't that bad. And I never have a problem with drone, and mine is dumped right before the axle. Is yours dumped or tail piped?

It is nice unloaded driving the highway and going through town, I set off at least one alarm at intersections. The problem is with it being under load.

Mines no where near having the ability to set off car alarms with the cutout closed. And I have lt headers and a hi flow car. You sure it's an 18"magnaflow, and that it's going through the muffler. Doesn't have a crack in the piping and escaping there?

Positive. It is 18" long 3" pipe Magnaflow 6" round body. I did have to cut off the last 6" of the tip due to sliding into a rock and collapsing the pipe. Magnaflow part number 12649

That is the small one and I don't know if that will be that loud. I wonder how old is it and is it in good shape?
