Now it was not my intention to destroy the thing BUT in trying to get it off I came to the realization that even if you get past the glue along the edges (which does not come off with a heat gun....tried it) the whole assembly is basically one piece. Frog I know you would be somewhat interested so here are some pics:

Also to add, if you were to do this to block off al the chambers to make it a through and through design, the best bet (and my first thought) was to cut the pipe on the underside of the hat and plug the holes up and then drill a couple small holes and fill it with expanding foam, then figure a way to reinstall the back panel and seal it all up. Oh well.

It seems it's not nearly as restrictive as we always thought.

Yeah just seems to make the air more turbulant though.

Dont think I would say that its not that restrictive, just looking ar where the ports are for the incoming air, it seems to redirect the flow quite a bit instead of giving it a steady solid stream of air like a straight pipe would.

No doubt those pockets create some turbulence, but those fins in the lid seem to return some laminar flow.

I'm not saying it's ideal. I just don't think it's as bad as I once thought it would be.

I agree Frog I did think it was worse inside of there then it was. Maybe thats why there are alot of people running the stock air hat with just a TRQ tube.

Great pics, by the way.

Having seen this, the only thing I would consider doing is opening the box from the bottom and gutting the inside. Then I would retro fit an eBay tube into there. Stock look with a smoother flow. And the box would help to mask that annoying egr tick the metal tubes are prone to. I suppose you could insulate the box while you were in there.

While I'm at it....

I'll bet we get more restriction and turbulence from that horrid accordion hose that connects the hat to the airbox.

The only thing about fitting an ebay tube in there is the stock box is not round, its 3/4 of a circle with the top flat. I guess if you were to fit a tad smaller pipe in there it could work

Yep, surprised. Cut the bottom, do a little patching and fill with foam. Thanks for the pictures.
