im getting rid of a 99 ctd, due to the high prices of fuel. I want to stay with trucks, but i dont really want a hemi b/c then i'll be right back where i started. I found a 3.7 v6 that i really love, but is it worth it? Should I take it? Or just buy a car?

Advice and suggestions much appreciated

Thx in advance

I dont know much about the V6's in Dodges...but in my experience with a V6 in a full size application I would say if it is just a daily driver, sure go for it...but if you plan on working your truck, like towing, pulling...etc...then go with a V8...just my opinion based off a 4.3 and a Silverado...

Or get a bike...LOL..j/k, but gas prices arent going down anytime soon...here at the oil plant we are issuing a $0.40/gallon increase on all packaged and bulk oils starting Jan. 01, 2011.

Fuel prices will never go down period, may fluctuate a little but when all said and done the price will be higher. If cost of driving is your main concern, then I would suggest buying a car. If you want a play truck go with a 05 hemi.

My buddy had a 3.7 in a 2010 ram he got 13-14 mpg . Same if not less than a Hemi

The only reason it burns so much extra fuel is the 3.7 has to work much harder to pull the full size truck .

Who ever came up with the idea of saying the 3.7 and 4.7's are fuel savers needs shot in the nuts .

OR, the new avenger has the pentastar V6, 280something HP if I remember right, still gets around 30mpg. Makes me wish my mom waited for the new one.

I owned a 2008 3.7 v6. Not worth it. After owning it for 8 months, i got a 2008 4.7L.

Much better gas mileage and the cruise control doesn't freak the hell out when going uphill. Invest in a programmer and you'll save a **** ton on gas.

I had a single cab shortbed V6 before i bought my new truck.. if you dont plan on hauling anything over 50 pounds or driving up hills or accelerating at a fast pace or driving anywhere in inclimate weather then ya the v6 is the right vehicle.

Hell no its not worth it...i drive a 2003 QCSB 2wd with a 3.7....i do mixed city/hwy driving and the best I have got is 13mpg... Same as a Hemi...no power going up hills, overdrive has no kick whatsoever, slow acceleration, you really have to push the rpm to get up to speed on the freeway without slowing down those behind you...i have never towed but I doubt it can do anything decent....u want a truck with decent mileage get a v6 dakota.

I towed about 2,000 pounds from Ft.Worth, Texas to Odessa in my 3.7 V6. It was pretty rough let me tell you. The whole 4 hour drive I couldn't get the phrase "I can't driiiiiive fifty-fiiiiiive" outta my head. Painful experience.

I thought i was a left lane speed demon with my 03 ST QC 3.7. It was my first Ram and i was going WOT from idle every chance i could get. Truck was my "first flame" and was 100% stock when i traded a year later.
Now like then i was not concerned with MPG.

I don't know what happen to that "driver" when i went to my 04 LOL. Complete turn around.

Yea mine is that exact model, the ST, the previous owner swapped the stock 17" wheels for the 20s on now and went to the 33" inch tires on now as well...i swapped the ugly black grille shell and inserts for chrome to end up with what I have now...but yea WOT doesn't even do much hahaha

It was the same paint code as yours too. Look out Nostalgia.
Yours look much better though with the additional mods you have added.

hey thanks man...I love my truck i just hate that it has a V6 and an engine swap is too much of a pain with all the additional things that would need to be done...ill be in the market for a 3rd gen Hemi really soon that will be sitting on a 6" lift and 37s hopefully....soon, real soon.
