Noticed it today after not driving the truck all week, the door open/key in the ignition warning chimes you get and the chimes you hear just after starting the truck sound crackly, like the speaker or what not that makes the sound is blown. But the chimes you here when you put the key in the ignition and turn the truck to "On" that are a little slower sound fine. So, do the chimes come of the tweeters? or is there another speaker somewhere in the dash that is making it sound horrible?

The chime module is mounted on the back of the gauge cluster

Ryan,
Pulled from the manual.

DESCRIPTION
The chime module is located within the instrument
cluster and is not serviceable. The chime system provides
the driver with warning chimes for:
² Air Bag
² Seat Belt
² Low Fuel
² Door Ajar
² Low Wash
² Park Brake
² Over Speed
² Turn Signal On
² Key-In Ignition
² Exterior Lamps ON
² Warning Lamp Announcement
² Transmission Over Temperature

DOOR AJAR CHIME
The Instrument Cluster monitors the door ajar
switches. A chime will sound once when the door is
opened, the ignition is in RUN position and vehicle
speed is present.

Daniel,
My 03 manual says it is soldered into the cluster and when I had my cluster out I seem to remember it being part of the cluster and not replaceable. Maybe a 03 thing??

Ahh sorry i forgot to reply. It doesn't say you can or cant. It does seem to say to most problems require the entire cluster to be replaced.

I checked Advance Auto online and they do not list a replacement. Which doesn't really mean anything but might be an indicator that it is part of the cluster. I would be just as happy if mine died.

No, I'll check it out...

Edit: Found it, pretty clear to see that it looks removable.

2nd edit: Maybe what the manual means is that the "door chime" is located in the "Instrument Cluster" and the "door chime" is not servicable and my reading comprehension sucks....

Well the problem seems to be here and there, its odd because it sounds like the chimes are coming out of a blown speaker (that crackly sound) but for some chimes it will sound fine and others its like that and others it sounds fine all the time. I wonder if I some how rattled something loose between the radio and the cutout open. Its not really worth pulling the cluster out as I dont have any upgrades to do at the sametime so I can live with it for now if that is the case, its just really annoying.

Thats why I was thinking you could change out that little box, that might be the acutal noise maker part of the system. You could always get some LEDs, that would give you a reason to pull the cluster out :Wedgie:
