What exactly is shuttle shifting?

Hey guys just picked up a 2008 4.7 auto QC 2wd with 68k on it.
Only thing I noticed and I noticed it more so after I put exhuast on the truck is that when it shift from 2-3 sometimes it searches a bit. Is this shuttle shifting? If its in tow mode it shifts nice and firm and doesnt do it. Also does it sometimes looking for OD. Im guessing maybe its time to do fluid and filter change?

Only definition of shuttle shifting I know is on tractors & some forklifts. It usual refers to a knob/level that can switch the tractor from forwards to neutral to reverse without using the clutch. usually loader and utility tractors have it.

Can't say I have heard the term in reference to trucks.

4.7 doesnt have mds does it? When that kicks in and out I can tell and it seems funny... my .02
