Hello,
I'm new to the forum,
I hope it is the right place to place like this,
I'm looking forward to buy a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 5.7 hemi, and I'm curious if its worth it from dealer at about $7k with 128k miles. Judging from the pictures, there isn't any damage done to the body, or really minor. Under the truck, not sure but I'm going to check it out on Saturday. I would really wanna have a Dodge ram, please share me your tips on what to lookout for when buying one and if the mileage is good or bad, thank you!

Take a magnet with you to check for bondo. Thorough test drive checking brakes, heating of engine, exhaust leaks. Test each gear of the tranny. Make all the systems work properly

Is the 128.000 miles too much for the truck? Is 7k fair price if everything turns out to be good?

The price is fine. Check Blue book and NADA for prices in your area

Also on your test ride shut the radio off and listen to all sounds the truck makes, If the radio is on it can cover a noise! Do you have a mechanic you can have look at it? Bring a BRITE flash light and look UNDER the truck for rusted out frame! Try and look at the brake lines as well. DO a sniff test during the ride and after the ride pop the hood look for leaks and sniff around for a anti freeze smell ! Look at the tires to check the tread and see if those will have to be replaced! And as mentioned check NADA and Kelly Blue Book. Good luck and DO NOT fall in love with the truck, If you do not get that one there are more out there :)

Price seems good and miles are decent for that year. What Rado said, but never any guarantees. I bought an 07 TRX4 back in 2013 with 55k. Drove like dream, no shenanigans to be found during prepurchase inspection. Gave me $3k in hell within the first year, blew the fuel rail, 3 cracked injectors later on, blown radiator the next year, cat converter went bad, etc etc, the list went on. You just never know, it's always a risk buying used, even from a dealer like I did. Good luck!

**** I got an 02 with over 170k on it it's been a pain in the ass ever since but I own it free and clear and lovely or learn from my mistakes have a experienced mechanic look it's over top to bottom. Never take the word of the dealer and if you can catch a mechanic alone talk to em if no one is around they might tell you stuff they shouldn't.

Like a few said in this forum if they made one they made a dozen just like it.Get someone like my age or someone who knows what they are looking and help you with advise and such .If you know a mechanic and a shop have it checked out before you buy your first truck .Buy it so you like it because this is your first and that memory will last you a lifetime.About some of you people need to know use to a car or a truck reached 100,000 miles that thing was considered wore out.Cars and Truck engines are built with a lot more closer tolerance a 100 thousand miles now is just breaking in.I have 126 thousand and it runs strong and when it is not running right I fix it myself right then. But I know if you listen to some of these people in this forum you got some sharp people who will help you in need.May God Bless.

The trade-in value for my 2006 ST V6 is around 7k so I'd say thats a great deal considering that one is a 07 with a Hemi and 4x4. Just be careful and look over the truck well

Providing the previous owner(s) took care of the truck I bet the truck will last you a long time, or it could be a major pain in the butt, thats just the risk everyone takes buying used.

I have a 02 with 152,000 engine running strong so is the tranny yeah you will have to fix things here and there but it's a used truck once you do those things you won't have to worry about it again.

And the price is fair maybe you can get them to go down a little but just inspect it very well make sure you take someone that knows if you don't know what to look for
