This thread is 4 years old..........

But as someone who's lowered 5/9, I can tell you that while towing your bumpstops will be on the axle unless you put bags in it. I have McGaughy's bags for flipped trucks in mine and have had 2200lbs in the bed before.

You're not going to get a 4WD lowered 5/7.

Yes I'm new to the forum I didn't even notice I honestly wanna do like a 4/6 and put the bags on the rear I have a 24ft trailer to hall my race car

IMO, that's too big of a load for a 1500 to haul even if your racecar is really light. A 2500 however does the job nicely...

I have a buddy who hauls a boat in not too sure the size but i know it's more then what I would haul and from what I've seen on forums this thing could haul 10k pounds without a issue

My advice is to call a couple friends and pull the bed off. The 20 minutes to take the bed off will save you a lot of time, energy and effort putting the bag kit on. It makes everything 20x easier.

SECKS-C!

Only thing I don't like is the too small tire profile and the exaggerated eyelids. just a top lid to block off that dumb area is PERFECT IMO. No angry eye. No bottom eyelid. All that makes it look silly or too 'aftermarket'. Dare I say, 'ricey'.

Either way. I still REALLY love your truck, dude. 3/5 to 4/6 would seemingly be my personal limit for a drop, but this is still, nonetheless, as I said, SECKS-C!

Also, how do you guys get those animated gifs of your trucks for profile pictures????

Taking the bed off is the only way to do major suspension work. I recently installed a HTH truckarm coilover suspension along with mini tubs. Having the bed off was the only way to do this amount of cutting/welding. Good luck

Is this 3, 4, or 5 link? And it's on a ram, right? A 3rd gen????

**excited**

Quick Q: How close can I mount the trans to the diff if I wanted to do a rear-mount/mid mount trans for better weight distribution. Basically, how SHORT can the drive shaft be before it starts to cause problems on a solid axle vehicle?

The arm's on my truck are 52" long. So I guess it would be possible to shorten up to that point. Personally Id leave the engine in its original position and move wieght and engineer the suspension to hook. Ive just started track testing using 31/1250-15 slicks. But as I lower the tire pressure its reducing wheel spin. (11.66@117).

So basically, the drive shaft can't begin within the length of the arms? Hmm. Okay.

I have a few other questions. Some of which I posted in other threads in other sections. One that I didn't being "how far can you C-notch the rear before you have to cut into the bed or move it upwards?"

Also. That's a really nice truck. I like those wheels, man. 3rd gen red is usually not great looking, but that lighting in that shot do it justice.

I'd hate to run 15's. I really wish that companies made STREET performance parts for full sized trucks. ****'s hard to find. Like, seriously, ya'all can't make a 32"-33" tall 275-325 width drag radial for a 19"-23" wheel??? No tires in the 31.5"+ range above an H/W speed rating? No 21" wheels or tires AT ALL??? Because my dream tire is a 33x12r21

Oh, and that's another thing. Tire sizing is ********. Because of the "section width/aspect ratio" measurement, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get the EXACT size you want. I think ALL tires should be "overall heigh/section width/rim diameter" in inches, going in 0.5" increments. Except for wheel size, though, since the only half inch increment wheels are 19.5 and 22.5 commercial wheels.

We modify our trucks to suit ourselves, as you get into engineering different mods you will find various limitations. And if something prevents you from doing what you want to do. Then its just a matter of stepping up the mod to compensate or remove the interference. If you are looking at performance the first thing you will need to do is replace the rfe545 trans with one that'll support your goals. I recommend one mod at a time in a way that each supports the next mod. Try not to put yourself in a position where you have to keep redoing previous mods. Plsn ahead and itll be cheaper with less stress. Good luck.. one more picture you may like..

OOoohh, yes. Is that cut into the fender? How do you avoid the leaf spring with that? {{or is that one reason you got the coil rear?}}

My QC is kinda like that, but it still has the stock exhaust 'tip'. I went to a cheap muffler shop and had them do a muffler delete and resonator relocate to the side with the side pipe. Perfect sound level with cruise control, decent volume when I step on it.

I really need to make my build thread now. Gotta post up questions on my mod path for this darn thing, and ask whether peeps think I should keep the 3g or move to a 4g what with wanting an 8 speed and all.

Then again, I'm REALLY damn indecisive on which one I think looks better now, and which one will have lasting attractiveness. Gods dammit this is hard on me..... Factor in that I inherited THIS truck when my dad passed, and I'm just in a vicious circle of "do I mod it or do I try to sell it and get a 4g and mod that"

Also, as far as drops and performance suspensions go, couldn't I just get coilovers for the front instead of separate springs and dampeners? {{even though I know a spindle is a given for the front}}

You know what rawram? The more I look at your truck, the more I want to recind my statement about the angry eye squint.

I'm really liking this thing overall. The more I look, the more I'm thinking 'goals'

So, I have to ask. What all do you have done with your headlights and fogs? I mean, in terms of the projector, colors, reflectors, and whatnot? Looks like you have reddish demon eyes, white halos, white secondary beam, and 2000k LED fogs? Where and what are your turn signals? And what housing did you use? {{looks like an 07/08 with a clear side reflector, and the inner light reflector-bowl blacked out to go with the rest of the inside}}

Just so you know, the original post was from 4 years ago, and rawram hasn’t made a post in 3 years...probably won’t get a response

Once the leaf springs are removed, it opens everything up for wider tires. The next limiting factor then becomes the bed. When they are widened then 17" tires will fit.

I don't think I'd go that far, lol! Still wanna be able to fit sheets of plywood between the wells. :anitoof:

You guys already know I want to build a snipe. A truck that looks like rawrams', performs like a pro-touring restomod, and can still do some truck things. All with a full interior+sound deadened audio build, too.

Plz send help :word:

I drive red more than my other two trucks put together. But she's as subtle as a dog in a cat show. As for sound system, there isnt one....
