I want to drop mine bad, nothing huge justa 2/4 drop so i don't have to use the step bars. I wondered if everyone did it themselves and if they needed any special tools. Thank you!
If it's a Spring Front Shackle/hanger rear, the rear install can be quite a pain in the a$$.
It's totally do-able with a grinder / drill. (Factory hangers are riveted to the frame). It's time consuming, but very rewarding.
droped mine myself aswell, qaulity set of star bits propane torch a bunch of cuss words, but overall not that bad, ive got the 2/4.5 dont know the difference between the two drops
I did mine in my driveway. Started off with a McGaughy's 2/4.5. Now I have a 3/5. If you have a good way to lift/support your truck, have a basic set of tools, & a decent understanding of what you're doing (which I didn't, lol) you can do it.
My bf did mine in the driveway, I wrote this a while back, I didnt take pictures but it should still help you with the process....
Now mine is a 2.4.5 with spindles in the front and flip kit in the back http://www.ramforum.com/f76/diy-mcgaughys-2-4-drop-4584/
I recommend that you weld the flip kit part up in the rear to be on the safe side
Offered to drop Ms. Hitmans to compete with my stylishly lowered S10....felt this burning sensation pulsing thru my junk after she hit me with the Vader stare...guess thats a no-go.
on ur if you do a 2/4.5 drop, in the back its just a flip kit and a longer shackle. so you wouldnt have to cut or grind anything. bolts right up. did mine in febuary in my garage
just make sure you or you have someone weld the perches to the axle. seen several (with a good amount of power) bend the original spring perch. where are you located?
Ive done my past cars and trucks( s10's grand ams and on this one though. mustangs) ill probably get some help. Done alot of notches and bag jobs, so im sure I'll weld in my own notch.
