Are shorter shocks on the front required for a 2/4? Will the stock length bottom out too often?

And to do a 4x4 the mcgaughys drop spindles work right? At least better for geometry than drop coils.

From what has been posted, 2wd spindles work on the 4x4 so I would think the opposite would be true. With spindles, stock shocks can be used. Do some research, but if I remember right I have 2001 Durango stock shocks on 1-1/2 cut spring.

Is the geometry the reason for not doing coils instead of spindles? Id much rather spend 360 than 560 lol. A little easier to handle.

Yes, the 3g front suspension doesn't have much travel. With cut springs the truck is sitting on it's stock bumps. I adjusted Tembren rubber springs to keep the travel limited so my tires wouldn't hit the inner fender liners.

I would suggest you go out to your truck and take a picture of what you currently have. You will be very surprised.

Here's my stock suspension. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see any bump stops lol. But with the IFS there shouldn't be anything that would hit from lowering. Remember I'm new at this lol... Still learning

My bad you are 4x4 with IFS, that's a whole different setup. I thought we were talking about a 2wd. You need someone who knows the newer trucks. Sorry..

No big deal. Just looking at it, the spindle would provide better angle on the cv axle, but to me it looks like the coil would be what drops the truck. We'll see...

Spindles lowers by relocating the spindle 2" higher which physically lowers the truck by that amount. Altering spring height simply simulates an amount of suspension compression.

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks, couldn't find anywhere that explained that. I wish the spindles weren't so expensive :/

I have a 4x4 but no coils up front... Torsion bars are what I have. I have already done the lowered shackles out back but still find the truck sits very high, even for a 4x4.

I do have a welder, but not sure I would be welding on my axles with my newby welder knowledge. 2 reasons pop to mind : 1. Would not want to ruin the axle. 2. Safety of a poor welded part.
However if only a few spot welds can secure the whole thing, I might be starting to seriously think about an axle flip kit.

You got me hitching RED... might have my summer truck project on the board...

Stay tuned

It never occurred to me that the axle might spin in the buckets... but like Igolo said - its a very slow V6 (for now). Might just throw a few tacks on there for piece of mind.

Ride feels the same - just seems easier for the wife and I to get in and out of the truck now :) short-legged-syndrome and all.

Waiting for new open ended lugnuts and locking lug nuts to arrive so I can get my new 18" rims on the beast - should see some serious height changes overall then.

I bought the upper control arms thru Summit Racing. They were about $44 each, Moog replacements. Not a kit or part of a kit - but definitely a smart move. The new ones are more tubular designed than the stock ones and the ball joint was already pressed in place. I have a picture:
SNV34657_zps3a7048ae.jpg
The new control arm and new coil are only dark black things in the photo - the things not covered in 50,000 miles of road grit :)

Awesome!:waytogo: Thanks! I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a kit. I saw a few guys talking about "raising" the upper ca's. I think that was for a bigger drop than just a spring drop.

I have the groundforce 2/4 kit on my 4x4. Definitely a big improvement over stock height.
