I lowered my truck. Not

My buddy Rob has an 05(?) 4wd. The front is lowered via keys and a torsion bar crank. Anybody know any tricks for getting this aligned properly? I know several guys here have lowered 4wd's.

Thanks!

Is he doing the alignment himself, or by a shop? I don't have much experience aligning, as I bought the lifetime alignment from Firestone. But from what they told me, my tow in was bad and the camber was negative.

Here's a website explaining the difference:
http://www.familycar.com/alignment.htm

To adjust the camber, you have to change the position of the upper control arm. You can loosten them and adjust and retighten as necessary, they have elongated holes for adjustment. To adjust the toe on this type of front end you need to first loosen the jamb-nut the holds the outer tie rod end tight to the inner tie rod. Thn you just turn the inner tie rod to adjust the alignment.

I don't know what the front suspension looks like with the torsion bars. But I assume it has upper and lower control arms much like the 2wd trucks. When I had mine done after dropping the front using 2" spindles the first shop made a mess of it. It actually drove better before they worked on it. I think it was a fluke and the shop just really didn't know what they were doing as they focused on lifted trucks. The second shop I used was a state of the art facility that worked on primarily crashed vehicles and understood what it took to make a vehicle drive correctly. I bought adjusters to make the job easier and I think it was worth it as my truck drives beauitifully. With my tire/rim combination I had a slight rub at full compression and after the camber was adjusted I nolonger have the rub. Short story long, you may consider using adjusters to help getting it right. Good luck..

George,
That looks like them. I got mine at NAPA. It take a two sets, one set per side. I think NAPA price was a little better then the eBay ones.

Hey guys! Thanks for the imput and the thread starting (George). I'll have to pull the computer print-out from my alignment but the tech said that he couldn't get in in completely. I will look to see if the alignment kit will help me and definately put out the $$ if it will help!

As far as pix? There's a few in my profile! I hope you like them. - Rob

Welcome Rob. Your truck looks great. If your alignment guy can't get it right, you might consider using a drop spindle to get the geometry where it will align better. Your truck has a good look and I like the stance. Good luck..

Trup,
How much more drop can you get in the front by adjusting your T bars? I would think you can drop as long as the shaft angle is good. Man I would love to have the traction of the 4wd....

If I get the keys, eventually I want to, I can go another inch. But that's it, I don't want my cv axles at a too severe angle, and 1 more inch will put them at the max I would want them at. Gonna wait for the 22 wheels and tires before though. I'll match the fender gap to what I want.

Welcome to RF Rob! ^^ditto!

Thanks guys. It's not out too far and I may adjust it up a hair as I am at a 2" drop now and perhaps going up will get it right. Drop spindles certainly would have been the way to go as hindsight is 20/20! (a guy on DT has my set-up and talked me into it :shooter:)

Rob,
What all have you done to the front that would make it difficult to install the spindels? You would have to raise the T bars some to get a 2-3 drop, but your shaft angle would improve. Trup can step in here but aren't the 2wd spindles the same as the 4wd spindles? I see MG 2"drop spindle pop up on the classifieds fairly often. Good luck...
