My ram is lowered 2/5. I want to get some 2inch lowering spindles then i want to lower the rear some more. The rear end is already like a few inches from the frame and very seldom hits but since i want to go lower I'm going to have to do the c-notch. Would any of you guys do it or do you have it done?

I've been getting "dont do it!" because it totals out the truck if the insurance ppl find out. But i'm also hearing if its done right it wont even matter. I was just wondering what you guys thought about it.

for the sake of ride quality on a truck that low i believe it is necessary. i dont think it would total your truck if it were done right by a shop. in your back yard with a 30 pack ehhh. i would do it and hopefully will do it one day, when i can afford new wheels and tires and air bags and everything else. call an insurance agent or a professional shop and ask them.

agreed. as far as strength goes, if done properly it will be every bit as strong as the original frame. as for whether or not your insurance company would like it, ask them

I don't have a notched frame but I'm sure I will before it's finished. I haven't asked the insurance company, so can't say but I doubt if it would automatically "total" a truck having it done professionally. This doesn't mean not doing it yourself, but more about the quality of the build. I say go for it.

There would be an issue of you purposely totalling your truck in that case.
I dd ask my insurance guy about what compensation I could expect for my truck if it was damaged and suggested that I have it apraised to establish it's modified value and get a custom builders policy.

damn ins always trying to hold a man down. if that is purposely totalling your truck and would be fraud, then how are they allowed to sell them? even for off road use.

here is a number from aribagit.com they should be able to answer, they are the seller

Need help call 800-842-8789. Before you buy, read Knowledge Base under RESOURCES on the Left C-sections Frame notches to keep axle from hitting bottom of frame. Never cut frame until you assure there is no Pressure on the frame before cutting. Use jackstands in front & Rear

Total of the truck is ok as you will still some type of insurance payout. I am actually more nervous in getting declined due to darker tails if something happens.

You all have some good points. I'm going to call the insurance ppl tuesday and see what they have to say about it. If they dont like it i may just call around to some other insurance companies and see if they would cover modified frames.

That would really bite, might be good to stick with DOT certified lights. Same with a roll pan if we got rear ended, you know the insurance will at least make noise about not having a bumper. And certainly not cover the custom body work and tailgate. Reason why I'm thinking builders insurance.

Yes that is nicely done.
I was thinking using the heavy wall pipe and a piece of 2x2 square tubing on top of the frame.

actually insurance will cover all of that. If someone else hits you then you just need to show what it cost you and what the vehicle is worth.

I had a cover truck, completely hand built get hit and they tried to give me 1600 bucks because of blue book. I showed the magazine proving worth, plus what I spent and got 4300.

Coleys Dodge has been hit twice and he made out like a bandit both times without having to fight much either time.

remember its your vehicle and you have the right to let whatever place fix it. In my case I said I would fix it, or get some estimates from hot rod shops. It was an easy decision for them.

We made that notch at the place we work. We both work at Integrated Armor and build armored vehicles. We have access to a CNC plasma and the CAD program to design anything. We also build Ranch Hand style bumpers so we also have access to 4.5" OD tube for regular old school C notches.

The one on Coleys truck is called a "super C" and fits .250" under the bed floor. It slides down over the frame and then welds in so you dont lose any strength there.
