So I have been looking around at Ram Trucks to get.

Currently I am only looking for advice.

I plan on making a highly modified Ram for off-road use in the future but have had trouble finding the best one to look for.

I want it to have straight axles not IFS.
4x4 is a must.

I plan on dropping a 6.4L Hemi
With 42" tires on 20" rims

Thank you

If you plan on lifting big. Don't waste your money on the Power Wagon. Just get a regular 2500 with a 6.4. And yoga with the lift of your choice. And add the lockers and sway bar disconnects.

The power wagon sounds like a pretty good option I have just heard they are hard to come by and that they do not sell for cheap.

Saw a couple of ads for 3rd gen rams between $10,000-$13,000
Which I could use to build it big with.

Thank you for the input it is a lot of help.

Buying a newer 2500 with a 6.4L, 4x4 will save you more money than retrofitting one into a 3rd gen. If you do go 3rd gen, you either need a 2500 or 3500, or a 1500 megacab (has straight axle up front). But you're better off getting a new 2500 with a 6.4 since there are already decent lift kits and what not, plus the motor in the truck works... putting a 6.4 in a 3rd gen isn't guaranteed. Save time, money and hassle and go with a new truck.
