I'm wondering what kind of lift I should get on my first truck? I was thinking a 3"leveling kit with the longer shocks. What do you think?

You'll get a variation of answers by asking 'what we think'
LOL

Id say what you are planning is a good starting point

Haha well I agree on that point. I'm looking for something that doesn't go off road very often at all but still maintains that mean off road look. But not too mean...Highway fuel economy is pretty much my only concern. I want the truck to operate close to the same but not have that "sagging" front end look that the 4x2's are known for

I would just level it and get and some fat mud terrain tires to give the front end a beefy look

Just from some personal experience I would hate to see a repeat of what happened to my truck. I'm sure there are better kits out there but I just so happened to buy the 3 inch "lift kit" on eBay with rear lift blocks re indexed torsion keys and shock extenders. Absolute waste of money. Trust me I saw no end of problems, after literally 5 miles of driving outer cv boots were torn, ball joints gotta be replaced, etc. installing new half shafts seems like an easy concept but once u start rippin stuff apart, you just so happen to need to replace a few other things. Cranking your stock keys seems like a healthy leveling height- doesn't put too much stress on components. Anything over that is just not good. Yeah, I did get a refund but ended up having to take the entire kit back out. Not fun. Body lifts are a pain but you know what it's worth it and they really don't look bad. If you're looking for a level crank the stock keys- couple of my buddies did that no problems at all. Tried to get a good look at your truck I've got an 03 1500 4.7 4x4 so I think this applies. Good luck

I would go with a leveling kit and get some decent a/ts. I did a 3 inch torsion key front level and got 33x 10.50 falken wild peak a/ts (275 60 r20). You can look at my pics if you want to get an idea. You will have to watch cv axle boots they will break. 2k miles and my cv joint boot at the rear of my front drive shaft broke.
