I have a 07 2500 and I'm a ram newbie. I've noticed that the 2500s typically have 17" wheels while the 1500s typically have 20" wheels. With the OEM tires on both, the 2500 has a smaller tire than the 1500. Why is that? I would think you'd want the opposite, especially with the extra space to fill between the two. I've looked around and I didn't see an answer for this already, but it is driving me crazy.

My 2006 came with the 17's as well, but my 2014 came with 20's and the tires spec is 33.4 tall. Not sure I like the 20's as tires seem to be pricier than some of the smaller sizes...I may end up going with 18's if/when I upgrade.

2500s are work trucks, 1500s are your pretty everyday trucks...auto companies market that because 80% of people do not need a 2500+ work truck to drive 8 miles to work.

I put 20x10s on my 1500, it has 20's factory. I like them better then 17's or 18s anyway. the bigger the rams get the larger wheel look better in my mind. 17" looked huge on 2000-01 trucks

OldSkool nailed it.

2500s aren't glorified minivans like most people's 1500s.

Stock '11 Express had 275/60R20s, 33" Tires
Stock '13 Tradesman 2500 has 245/70R17s 30" Tires.

Let me tell you how well THAT sits with me...

Thanks for the info. I was kind of hoping it was because the factory wheels on the 1500s weren't capable of handling the load a 2500 can. At least that would be a logical reason. Seems bone headed otherwise.
