So which is the best way? Only methods I know of is VHT nightshades, and tint film. I'm not looking for super dark, but enough that it'll look fairly tinted. Does anybody have any other methods or advice? I also do have a good paint sprayer if there is a way to do it that way, and what kind of paint is used that way?

Any help is welcome.

front or rear?

Either way, VHT ..... no. Do it with REAL paint / clear....

Tails, right on. Heads, open 'em and do it correctly.

Don't know ways other than you stated unfortunately. If you tint you will most likely have to change out your bulbs for brighter ones if yours are stock. From reading some guys have painted the inside of the lens dark to prevent lowering their light out put.

JJ, do you know what kind of paint you used to use for tails? I just picked up a used pair and want to tint them.

So just super thin gloss black?
Do you think you could ask your painter his mixture ratios? I'm going for the stage 2-3 tint that you used to offer.

Thin it out bud..........I have no clue what he's running......and really, its going to vary based on what we did, which painter did it, etc. Play with it, you'll get it man!

just do spray tests on spare glass to get the right tint you need.

Well I found a diy on some forum that the guy candy coated his tails. He used a 1:1 mixture of paint to thinner 4 coats of deep cherry candy coat, 3 of reduced black, then 4 clear coats. So I'll get all my supplies this week then attempt at tinting these things. I'm not sure I'm going do the cherry coat as the lights are already red.

Is there any bulbs that are brighter than 3057's? I need to get new ones anyways.

if you have a paint gun, ten why dont you get duplicolor half gallon can of acrylic lacquer clear coat you can find at advance and autozone, and get the black paint, and mix in a couple of drops of black into the clear coat to tint the clear coat. then itll be a nice fine mist all the way across the tail light, if you only put a couple of drops of black into the mixture it will be fairly see through and you will have a lot better controll of the spray pattern and how much you can build up then the tint and get a perfect shade.

let it dry after you get the perfect shade, then all you need to do is hit it a couple of times with just pure clear coat then cut and buff it when it is dry!

in this case itll be a bit cheaper than the candy colors. and you practically made your own candy color

I used Lamin-X on my tails. Very easy to use and doesn't cost much. Its a film that goes on. You can get different levels of tint. I don't recommend tinting your headlights. You will definitely need to go with HID's as I know a lot of guys that have done this and say they can't see anything at night. Best way is to open them up and paint the insides.

No I never intended to tint my headlights. Just the tails. I like the lamin-x stuff, but the extreme sun of the summer in NM worries me that it might bubble or start peeling.

I am going to get that duplicolor paint and clear coat. I already talked some of my friends into me tinting their tails for some money. I stripped and cleaned my spray gun last night. I might pick up another one from harbor freight so I have one for color and one for clear.

Do you have pics of how yours look? I'm also going to do a sanding on them before painting and after the clear dries to get rid of any chance of orange peel. 800 grit before, then 1000 grit and polish after.

Well I did mine differently. I found the factory paint code match and I lightly misted over them a lot to get it even. Probably did like 30 coats to get it even cuz the spray cans arent ever as even as a gun. Then I cleared it. This is how theh came out!

Believe it or not the light still shows through! But these are show tails. Only for when I go to meets and stuff
