I have a 03 1500 with the 7 pin trailer plug now I'm looking to add a battery to my trailer will the 12v charge the battery or do I need to run a new wire for that work? I have looked and heard both. So just want to know what is the right answer

If you upgrade the 12v acc. pin on the 7 pin to 10g wire with a 40 amp fuse
I believe the stock trailer wiring harness is 12g and only 20

I would probably be easier to run a seperate wire with a plug on the end that way you wouldnt have to mess with the factory harness and worry about loosing your lights/trailer brakes or something

Alright. Now what if I charged the battery before would the factory wiring keep it at 12v or is it still to small of a wire to do that

Its not really the voltage but the capacity (mAh)
The stock harness should be ok as long as its basically just the battery, if you have a bunch of other things hooked up itll pull to much current and can possibly melt the wire
